Meet the Rookies

They may be a bit too trigger-happy and ready to jump the gun at any time, but the rookies of the Xfinity Series are often some of the most entertaining drivers to watch.

While they lack the experience – some would argue – these drivers definitely bring a fresh perspective on the race, and you can rest assured that we have our own eyes set on them. The 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series will feature quite a few promising drivers, though they have yet to be put to a test.

Jesse Little

Son of the motorsport legend Chad Little, Jesse Little is a driver to keep your eyes open for. With two races in the Cup Series and winner of the 2013 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Rookie of the Year award, Jr. has the makings of a promising driver. His full-time debut in the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series was announced by JD Motorsports on November 7, 2019.

Cowby Howard

JD Motorsports might as well be given big props here for taking on so many newly-fledged drivers. As of 2020, Cowby Howard will be the latest driver to make a more series impact on the Xfinity Series and JD do mean business.

The team has decided to have Coward drive in at least 20 races this season and the young driver has all the reasons to want to establish his foothold into the race and NASCAR world. With such a strong presence next year he might find himself running a full-time schedule if he manages to bring enough wins to the team. He definitely has a good window of opportunity there.

Joe Graf Jr.

Call him a rookie and you will miss the mark. Joe Graf Jr. is a professional and he drives for Ford in the Menards Series, but has now been employed full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series courtesy of SS-Green Light Racing. On January 16, 2020, the team announced that they are bumping the youngster to a full-time driver. That’s quite impressive given that he started his racing career in 2018.

Riley Herbst

Meet yet another youth who’s decided to go full-time in the Xfinity Series. Young Riley Herbst is holding his end for the No. 18 Toyota Supra under Joe Gibbs Racing. The youngster has 10 races over 2 years and he was voted the 2017 ARCA Racing Series Rookie of the Year. Now, this is a rookie to keep in mind. He’s a quick study and motorsports is all about being adaptable.

Changes to the 2020 Xfinity Series

Just like road conditions, the Xfinity Series are constantly changing. You need to be alert and make sure you follow with the latest twists and turns of the event, so you stay on top of what bets you should place. There have been multiple changes in the drivers, crew chiefs and team setups over the past 12 months. Don’t worry, we will catch you up on the latest changes.

Teams

Overall, things have been quiet where teams are concerned. One squad announced their withdrawal from the series, but there have been quite a few old faces returning. The current composition of teams is definitely what we need in order to enjoy brilliant races this year.

  • January 15, 2020: DGM Racing decided to change their No. 36 team to No. 92 for this season. Josh Williams is still behind the driver’s wheel so despite this minor change, the team should run well in the 2020 series.
  • December 24, 2019: Martins Motorsports is back with Tommy Joe Martins and Craig Martins returning for the 2020 Xfinity Series season. They will be running the No. 44 Chevrolet and Tommy Joe will be going full-time.
  • November 21, 2019: GMS Racing regrettably withdrew from the series, which was definitely a blow for fans. Not to worry, because they are still in the Truck Series and Menards Series.
  • October 28, 2019: Sam Hunt Racing switched to full-time 2020 Xfinity Series and owner Sam Hunt has brought over his driver, Colin Garret, along with him. The team will participate in just five races, but should funding permits, Hunt might increase the number of races.

Drivers

On the drivers front, things have been looking rather exciting to say the least. Since late September, 2019, the NASCAR world has been buzzing with information about the races in the Xfinity Series.

  • January 14, 2020: Jeff Green returned behind the wheel of the No. 38 Chevrolet under RSS Racing. Definitely a great pick for the team.
  • December 19, 2019: Carl Long confirmed that due to crew redundancies, Joey Gase will not be returning to the team. That’s okay if you ask Gase who was immediately invited and accepted to join Rick Ware Racing on December 20.
  • December 3, 2019: Anthony Alfredo confirmed he would be racing part-time for Richard Childress Racing.
  • November 22, 2019: RSS Racing welcomed the return of C.J. Mclaughlin who had been signed for at least 20 races in the 2020 Xfinity Series.
  • October 17, 2019: Harrison Burton announced his return for Joe Gibbs Racing as a full-time driver this season. Burton will be driving the No. 20 Toyota. He has a lot of potential and is one of the runners for Rookie of the Year award.
  • September 24, 2019: Christopher Bell announced he was moving into the NASCAR Cup Series leaving behind the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

Of course, there have been more updates all along the way – some Tweets here and big announcements there. With the full list of drivers and races now available, though, we are absolutely convinced you will find the present updates sufficient to guide your next bet on the Xfinity Series.

Time to shift into gear!

Which Manufacturer Won the Past Editions?

It’s a funny thing, but NASCAR series are usually won by the same manufacturer on at least 2 occasions around 73% of the time. This means that once a manufacturer starts winning, they are looking at two or three won races in the very least.

Looking at the most recent winners of the Xfinity Series, Chevrolet has held down the fort in the past three races, winning the 2019, 2018, and 2017 titles. Chevrolet will be switching to the Camaro ZL1 1LE replacing its Camaro ZL1, which has won 76 races, an impressive feat by all estimates.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown on the winners of all events by manufacturer since the 1996’s edition:

ManufacturerYears Won
Chevrolet1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001
Ford2002
Chevrolet2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007
Toyota2008, 2009, 2010
Ford2011
Chevrolet2012
Ford2013
Chevrolet2014, 2015
Toyota2016
Chevrolet2017, 2018, 2019

Chevys have been doing a fantastic job on the track, so betting on that specific make is likely to pay off in a big way. Yet, you still have to choose your team and there are quite a few.

The most teams are driving Chevrolet though, and that’s ten total teams, including JD Motorsports, DGM Racing, RSS Racing, and other big names.

Ford and Toyota are only fielding two, which does explain why Chevrolet has been securing more titles than any other manufacturer.

Last Six Xfinity Winners

  • Tyler Reddick – 2019, 2018
  • William Byron – 2017
  • Daniel Suárez – 2016
  • Chris Buescher – 2015

The Switch to Indy Track’s Road Course

One of the big changes to the venues this year has been NASCAR’s decision to move the July 4 race onto Indy’s track’s road course. The organization cited fans demands to see the move and in statement they also added that the future of NASCAR would be even more fan-centered. Roger Penske has stated that any significant changes will be ran by fans so that the organization knows that it is moving in the right direction.

Don’t miss out your chance to place your NASCAR Xfinity Series odds. There are 33 brilliant opportunities to do so, not least of all DAYTONA 500!
