Ohio State Buckeyes vs Clemson Tigers Preview
The Buckeyes are shrouded in quite a bit of mystery as compared to Clemson. They have only played six games this season, with four of those competing against teams that had a combined record of 11-21.
The other two teams they faced happened to be higher quality teams. Within the final College Football Playoff rankings, they faced 11th ranked Indiana and 14th ranked Northwestern.
Fields Huge Key for Buckeyes
Quarterback Justin Fields has been a wild card and uncharacteristically turnover-prone in a few of those outings. In fact in a recent stretch, he threw for two touchdowns, five interceptions, and completed 30-of-57.
Fortunately for Ohio State, they had running back Trey Sermon who has dominated as of late. They are also expected to have wide receiver Chris Olave back, as he did not play in the Big Ten title game.
Adding more to their mystery, the Buckeyes offensive line is ranking 104th in the nation for sacks allowed. On average, they have given up three per game and with a recent showing of five sacks in the Indiana game.
If they keep this up, it could lead to big trouble especially with Clemson’s defensive line stacked with tremendous talent. This is not good news for the Buckeyes, as the Tigers are second in the nation in sacks.
However, the Buckeyes have had two weeks to get ready for their matchup with Clemson. You would think that would be enough time to come up with a plan.
Trevor Lawrence is once again leading arguably one of the nation’s best offenses. The Tigers are currently ranked fourth in the nation in scoring, and even 14th in yards per play. Even though they have those rankings, they also have questionable performances this year.
Their defense was questioned after allowing 40 points to Notre Dame. The team also struggled against Boston College, but Lawrence missed that one in addition to the Notre Dame game. In that performance, they gave up 28 points in the first half to the Eagles but ultimately came back to win 34-28.
Ohio State vs Clemson Pick & Prediction
By looking at the market, it will be interesting to see how people react. Both of these teams are arguably the most talented teams in the country.
If Fields is on top form, along with improved urgency from Ohio State’s defense, they can close the gap. However, Lawrence and company will prevail and have their sights set on a national championship.
