2020 NFL Draft to Go As Planned, Albeit Without Audience

  • 2020 NFL Draft is going to take place according to schedule (April 23-25).
  • The draft will be done from a TV studio without an audience.
  • Online sportsbooks have already released the 2020 NFL draft odds.

The 2020 NFL Draft will not be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic in the United States. It will go according to the previously decided schedule, with the only difference being that this time there will be no audience. The whole process will be done remotely from a TV studio with no players, fans, or media representatives in the room.

All of this is according to the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell who sent out a memo to all the franchises a few days ago, explaining how the 2020 NFL Draft will be done.

Apart from explaining the draft plans decided by the NFL Committee, Goodell also pleaded the teams to sustain from public criticism during the crisis.

No Fans Allowed

The NFL Draft is one of the biggest events in the calendar of football fans. It’s when all of the 32 franchises pick the most talented college players to join their rosters.

Each year, the draft attracts huge media attention, with hundreds of thousands of fans coming to watch the event in person. Last year, for example, the draft took place in Nashville, TN where roughly half a million spectators came to watch it live.

The 2020 NFL draft was supposed to take place in Las Vegas and a similar thing was supposed to happen. Football aficionados were to gather around the stage in front of the Bellagio Fountain, where a true spectacle was planned to happen – the players were supposed to get to and from the stage by boat.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic in the US, where more than 120,000 people have been diagnosed, the NFL Committee has decided not to allow fans to attend the draft. The same goes for the players, who will have to take part in the process form their homes.
