2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Odds and Betting Preview

The PGA Championship is back with yet another exclusive golfing action. On July 30, we will witness the return of the 2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, an event that reunites top golfing talent from Jon Rahm to Bryson DeChambeau, to Jason Day. There are many reasons to be happy and excited about the event which has been running since 1989 and promises to be one of the best.

The field is very competitive with eight of the best players in the world participating. Brooks Koepka took home the title in the 2019 edition of the tournament and he’s listed as a long favorite for this year’s iteration at (+3100).

Can he make his way to the top? That depends. Koepka is still struggling with a knee injury that makes his traversing large patches of golf course difficult. Dustin Johnson, another fellow golfer, is also listed as a heavy underdog at (+3300) and also had to withdraw from the 3M open because of an injury. Let’s have a look at the latest golf odds first.

With the field packing quite a few contenders, the battle for the title is going to be as exciting as it can get. Jon Rahm is priced as the heavy favorite at (+900) with his most recent victory at the Memorial Tournament. This was the golfer’s return after he fared poorly in the previous events participated in this year, and specifically:

  • Workaday Charity Open – 27
  • Travelers Championship – 37
  • RBC Heritage – 33

Yet the odds seem to favor him. Rory Mcllroy is pulling a close second with a little patchier track record. He placed 32nd in the Memorial Tournament and 11th in the Travelers Championship, preceded by unimpressive RBC Heritage and Charles Schwab Challenge showings.

Yet, he actually managed to secure six Top 10 finishes in his last ten events, even though most recently, he’s been in a bit of a slump.

Why Do We Bet on Bryson?

If there’s one underdog with a great chance to fly for the title, that’s Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau has only one victory this season, in the Rocket Mortgage Classic, but his performance has been quite consistent.

In fact, he’s the only golfer to have eight Top 10 finishes as far as we know, and that definitely puts him in a good position. Priced at (+1200), DeChambeau is definitely our own pick. He did miss the cut in the Memorial Tournament, though, prompting golf betting sites to take a bet on DeChambeau with caution.

Who Won the Last WGC-FedEx St. Jude Classic Champions?

2019Brooks Koepka
2018Dustin Johnson
2017Daniel Berger
2016Daniel Berger
2015Fabian Gomez

Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka are both former winners, but their present health issues might hinder them from vying for the title once again. Yet, having had experience and time to prepare, we are still excited to see how they fare in this year’s edition.

Johnson did miss the cut at Memorial though and he was forced to withdraw from the 3M Open due to a back injury.
