The Bengals took their QB of the future last year in Joe Burrow and he did look like the real-deal, but his season was also ended through injury as they struggled to keep him upright.
They faced a huge dilemma with that number 5 overall pick as they were always going to have their pick of non-QB talent, but would they address the most obvious need?
The top-rated tackle Penei Sewell was on the board at number 5 so they could’ve taken a cornerstone of the O-line for years to come, but they went in a different direction instead:
Cincinnati Bengals 2021 NFL Draft Picks
They decided they couldn’t pass up on the chance to sign one of the premier playmakers in this draft class, and it’s a move that makes a lot of sense when you consider that Chase and Burrow have a great history from their LSU days so they’ll be hoping to pick up where they left off in the NFL.
The O-line was addressed as the draft went on so there will be hopes that those rookies can improve things, but the key to the whole operation is keeping Burrow upright.
If they can do that then he’ll have some very good receivers to throw to in Chase, Boyd and Higgins, so they should expect to be more competitive next season.
