Gleybar Torres (+150)
After a strong start to the season, the Yankees infielder has certainly slowed down. Overall, he’s had an effective year and has been solid. He’s batting .258 in 83 games, with 18 HR’s and 52 RBI’s. He’s got 75 hits, and has scored 36 times. He was also voted into the All Star game, a rare feat for an MLB rookie.
His own rookie teammate has great odds, a player we’ll get to soon. The injury that took Torres out for a little while didn’t do him any favors, and he has just four hits in his last ten games. He’s got the best odds right now, but it’s going to be tough.
Shohei Ohtani (+280)
After starting the year very impressively, both as a hitter and starting pitcher, it seemed Ohtani would run away with this race. A UCL injury forced him out for a month, and then he returned only as a DH. He’s batting .269 with 12 HR’s and 35 RBI’s, and has scored 33 times. Pitching wise, he’s gone 4-1, posting a 3.10 ERA, striking out 61 batters.
He’s got a chance to win the award despite being injured earlier in the year. If the Angels DH ends up winning it, it would truly be a phenomenon, because the next player has a great chance.
Miguel Andujar (+400)
An everyday player for the Yankees this year, the 23-year-old Andujar has come through big time. He’s batting .294, with 123 hits in 419 at bats. He’s launched 19 home runs, while driving in 59 runs. He’s been effective both at the plate, and in the field as well.
He’s hit quite a few timely home runs for the Yankees throughout the year, and has held his own. He hasn’t been benched at all, and seemed poised like a veteran. He’s been a great talent who should have the best odds to win the award this year.
Max Stassi (+700)
Though he’s technically playing in his sixth MLB season, this is the rookie year for Stassi. He’s got 8 HR’s and 27 RBI’s, 49 hits in 204 at-bats. He has scored 27 runs, while batting .240. He’s had a few good moments this year.
He should by no means be the winner of this award, as team standing has nothing to do with it. It’s good for Stassi who came into the league in 2013 to finally have a chance to really play.
