- The Bengals planning to stay at the top of AFC North
- Cincinnati coming off a blowout win over Baltimore
- Jet’s starting QB Zach Wilson to miss the Week 8 game
If there’s an overachieving team in the 2021 season, it’s the Cincinnati Bengals. They are 5-2 right now and judging by what we saw last weekend, the future is bright for them. What we saw was a 41-17 win over the Ravens in Baltimore, in a game that the Bengals entered as a one-touchdown underdog.
This time, they’re seen as a huge favorite against the New York Jets. It’s not only because of their superb run; it’s also because the Jets have some quarterback troubles – their starting QB Zach Wilson picked up an injury in Week 7 that will keep him sidelined for a couple of weeks.
Knowing all this, it seems that anything but an easy win for the Bengals would be a huge upset. The real question is how easy will it be? Can they cover the 10-point spread?

Cincinnati Eying Their First Playoff Berth Since 2015 Season
Who would’ve thought the Cincinnati Bengals would be in top position in AFC North seven weeks into the season? Not many people probably. After all, this team finished bottom in the division last season, with a 4-11 record.
This time, however, the Bengals are at the top. What’s best is that they’ve already beaten two of their divisional rivals – Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
The game against the Ravens was particularly impressive. It happened last Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, in front of more than 70k fans, most of whom were cheering for the hosts.
Even though they were pre-game underdogs, the Bengals obliterated the opponent. Their sophomore quarterback Joe Burrow was the man in the spotlight. He threw for a career-high 416 passing yards in that game.
Three of his throws resulted in a touchdown. One of those passes was caught by receiver Ja’Marr Chase who also had a fantastic game. In fact, he broke a record of his own in that game, covering a career-high 201 yards.
The Bengals’ offense demolished the opponents, but equally impressive was their defense. They were able to keep Lamar Jackson at bay, allowing just one touchdown pass from the Baltimore superstar.
If they were able to stop the Ravens’ quarterback, they should have zero problems doing the same against the Jets’ quarterback. This goes especially for the fact that the Jets’ play-caller isn’t going to be Zach Wilson.
Zach Wilson to Miss the Week 8 Game
The New York Jets lost the Week 7 game to the New England Patriots, but that wasn’t their biggest problem. What happened with their starting QB was what really messed them up in that game.
Zach Wilson picked up a PCL injury, for which he will have to miss a couple of games. It’s still unclear how long will he be sidelined, but it’s certain he won’t feature in the Bengals vs Jets game.
When he got injured against the Pats, Mike White stepped in as his replacement. The guy threw for a touchdown straight away but then failed to do much in the remainder of the game.
White went 20-32 for 202 yards, which does seem like a decent performance. The trouble is that he also got two interceptions and got sacked once.
NFL Game Picks
If the Jets managed to pull off a win in Week 8, it would be one of the biggest upsets of the entire season. However, they won’t do it. Even if Zach Wilson was there, they’d end up losing.
Without him to lead their offense, they’re heading for disaster. A blowout win for the Bengals seems like a certainty.
