BMW PGA Championship 2020 Preview
The BMW PGA Championship is one of the biggest events on the European Tour, but will this year be taking place a whole month after its original start date. The par for the course at Wentworth is 72, as the players will be competing over a course that is 7,302 yards long. In total, there will be 132 players involved in the competition this weekend, and there will be $7 million in prize funds available.
There have been some standout winners at the Wentworth Club over the past 13 years, with players such as Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari and Paul Casey all claiming win. The BMW PGA Championship has been dominated by English players, with six English winners in the past eleven years. There have also been two Italian winners, one Swedish, one South Korean and one Northern Irish winner.
Four players will be looking for a second victory in this competition, with Danny Willett, Chris Wood, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Davis Howell having all won in the past. Last year’s winner was Danny Willett, who finished three strokes ahead of Jon Rahm. Willett’s final score was 268, which was the best score in this event for four years, and also the second best score since the event was renamed to the BMW PGA Championship in 2007.
Main Contenders For The BMW PGA Championship 2020
Tommy Fleetwood will begin the BMW PGA Championship as the outright favourite in the betting after he finished as the runner-up in the Scottish Open last weekend. It was a desperately close affair at that European Tour event, as Aaron Rai was able to get the win over Fleetwood in a playoff. Fleetwood has won five European Tour events during his career, with his last victory coming in the Needbank Golf Challenge back in November.
However, the player that certainly looks the best value in the market is Shane Lowry. Last year’s Open champion has proven course experience at Wentworth, which is a huge benefit for Lowry. Furthermore, previous winners have also experienced success on the European Tour prior to a success in the BMW PGA Championship, and Lowry also has that. He has won five events on the European Tour to date, and he will be our pick at a very respectable +2500 with Bet365.
Pick: Shane Lowry To Win The BMA PGA Championship at +2500.
