Chelsea Fires Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel to Replace Him

  • Frank Lampard was fired this morning, Chelsea confirmed.
  • Thomas Tuchel is taking over at Stamford.

Chelsea fired Frank Lampard this Monday morning, with the probable replacement being Tomas Tuchel, who should arrive at Stamford in the next few days.

Lampard’s Stint Ends Unsuccessfully

One of Chelsea’s biggest football legends couldn’t repeat his successes from playing days while leading the Blues as a head coach. This Monday morning, the English powerhouse announced that they parted ways with Lampard, who ends his 18-month stint without any notable success.

Lampard was brought to create a team capable of attacking trophies, and he did have a solid start, but since the beginning of this campaign, Chelsea’s results have been mediocre, and the board wanted to shook the situation and save the season while there is still time. The team is currently ninth in the standings with 29 points from 19 matches, five steps behind Liverpool, who is fourth, on the last place that leads to the Champions League.

Many fans were unhappy with the way Lampard led the team, especially following the summer’s transfer window, where Chelsea spent a lot of money, bringing high-profile names such as Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, etc.

Meanwhile, there is a vast number of those who believe that the young manager needed more time, especially in the current circumstances, where he had numerous new players. Also, according to some sources, Lampard was given three years to make the team worthy of attacking the title, but it seems that the executives decided to give up on that plan, which infuriated those who supported the manager.

Lampard came to the club in a difficult moment, after Maurizio Sarri and Eden Hazard left, in the middle of a FIFA transfer ban. Chelsea survived that period relying upon youngsters from the youth academy, primarily due to Lampard’s courage to give them a chance and patiently develop their quality.

Tuchel Back in the Saddle After a Short Pause

The German who led PSG to the UEFA Champions League finals and who lost the job this December will start a new adventure. Tuchel, arguably one of the most talented managers in Europe, was approached by Chelsea recently. According to the sources from the English media, he will sign a deal pretty soon, presumably in the next day or two.

Tuchel was fired from PSG, not because of poor results but the atmosphere in the locker room. The Saints started a bit slower, but as time went by started pounding at their usual pace. In the meantime, the circumstances have changed, and an obvious rift appeared between Tuchel and the biggest stars in the locker room, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, etc.

He was quickly released and replaced with the former Tottenham boss, Mauricio Pochettino.

Tuchel has a chance now to prove his worth in England and add some trophies to his collection. He has a DFB Pokal with Borussia Dortmund, two French leagues with PSG, one Coupe de France, one Coupe de la Ligue, and two French Super Cups.

Bayern Munich prevented him from winning the UCL title, defeating PSG, 1-0 in the latest finals.
