Florida Picks Up Sloppy Win
Florida might have shut out Vanderbilt last week; however, they were not rewarded in the AP Top 25, sticking at #20 after some sloppy play. This was a deceptive game; Florida shouldn’t have had the shutout after Vandy missed three field goals and had a touchdown taken back from them after a close call in the endzone.
The defense looked lackadaisical; one of the worst teams in the country had more first downs and a longer time of possession. Additionally, Florida somehow managed to give up 200 yards in the first half to the 121st ranked offense.
Be that as it may, the Florida offense is one of the best in the country. They currently rank tenth in total offense contributing 230 yards in the air and 273 yards on the ground. The Gator rushing attack is the third-best in college football and will be licking their chops against LSU, who gave up 330 yards on the ground.
LSU Head Coach Orgeron On The Hot Seat
Ultimately I’m responsible for the performance of the teamEd Orgeron, LSU Head Football Coach
After dropping their third game of the season, Head Coach Ed Orgeron is collecting a lot of heat. After winning the national championship in 2019, Orgeron has led LSU to an 8-8 record in the last two seasons.
The Tigers went on the road in Lexington and lost a game they couldn’t afford to lose. It won’t get any easier with every remaining team on LSU’s schedule having a winning record with the exception of Louisiana Monroe.
The Tigers offense has shown flashes of its explosive potential, but issues on the offensive line continue to suppress the offense. Max Johnson is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, averaging 346 yards through the air, but has been sacked nine times in the last three games.
Similarly, the rushing attack is explosive as of late, with Tyrion Davis-Price collecting 147 yards and two scores, but far too often, the offensive line is unable to open holes in the running attack. Because of these problems, LSU has incorporated a number of adjustments to help the offense.
“Ultimately I’m responsible for the performance of the team,” Orgeron told reporters on Monday. “I always will be responsible.
Free College Football Picks This Week
Who will win tonight’s NCAAF game:
The Florida Gators will feel the pressure of having a shot at getting into the college football playoff, but they will need to get this win over LSU and then take out Georgia next week. By the same token, the spotlight has been shined on Ed Orgeron after suffering through a long rebuild.
This will be a high-scoring affair; both teams need to prove that they belong, and I think both coaches will pull out all the stops to make this game competitive.
Only one game in the last seven contests between these teams has been decided by more than eight points. LSU has won three of the last four meetings and won last year in Gainesville 37-34. I like the Tigers to keep it within 10.5.
