Dana White Says UFC 249 Will Take Place Outside USA

Dana White stated yesterday that the UFC 249 is not going to be canceled, but that it might happen outside the US borders.

White Looking for the Solution

The UFC president clearly declared in his interview for SportsCenter that the super-fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson won’t be postponed or canceled.

During his interview, White explained that while organizing the entire event, all the health guidelines will be followed and that there won’t be more than 10 people in the object where the bout takes place.

White also stated that he hopes everything “clears up” until April, which would help in the entire organization. What is sure for now, is that the fight won’t take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and that he and the whole of UFC are already exploring different options. White also revealed that the fight wouldn’t take place in the United States.

The UFC already canceled three events so far – UFC Fight Nights, Overeem vs. Harris, Woodley vs. Edwards, and Ngannou vs. Rozenstruik.

It seems that the UFC president knows that the situation with the outbreak of COVID-19 is very dangerous. It is the prime reason why he wants to take the fight outside the borders to some other location, which isn’t affected by the virus as the US.

The fans across the world waited for this contest for so long. It was already canceled a few times in the past, and once White booked UFC 249 and Khabib vs. Ferguson as the headliner, the hype hit the ceiling. It is projected to be one of the greatest sports events in history and definitely the biggest in the MMA. Having in mind that the mass gatherings are forbidden and that many countries declared the state of emergency with all the quarantines and movement restrictions, PPV income would be amazing.

By the way, all the US sports stopped at the moment, as well as the majority of European, meaning that Khabib vs. Ferguson would be one of few sports events which take place in April (for sure, the most important one).

Khabib Wants Wants to Fight Without Spectators

The Russian Eagle and the undefeated champion of the lightweight category stated that he doesn’t mind fighting Ferguson in an empty building.

“We don’t need too many people inside the arena,” Nurmagomedov said. “Just close the arena, and that’s it.”

His agent Ali Abdelaziz proposed that the fight takes place in Zair, even though his client prefers the US. Nurmagomedov is currently in San Jose, training with the American Kickboxing Academy.

According to his interviews in recent times, Khabib isn’t concerned with the venue of the match, as he only wants to meet Ferguson. He also added that if, by any chance, Ferguson drops out of the event, he wants a different opponent to replace him.

After this bout, it is possible to see the rematch between him and Conor McGregor if everything ends up ok for the Russian Eagle. This may be the reason for
Khabib’s intention to make the fight happen at all costs. On the other side, there were no comments from Ferguson’s team regarding the entire situation about UFC 249.
