We saw seven games in the English Premier League today, which is more than enough to have our usual daily recap. Arsenal lost in the local derby against West Ham, Liverpool bounced back after two straight losses, and Chelsea won against Newcastle.

Hammers Smash Arsenal

The opener of today’s programme was at the London stadium. West Ham hoster their big rivals Arsenal, and won, minimally, 1-0. The hero of the match was Declan Rice a teenager who will turn 20 in just two days time. He couldn’t have wished for a better birthday gift than this goal. Rice scored the only goal in the 48th minute of the game, on the assist of Sami Nasri who returned to the Premiership. This was the first for the Hammers win at home against Arsenal since 2006.

Liverpool won after a penalty in the 50th minute, which was converted by Mohamed Salah, who in the first place forced the referee to award it to his team. Pascal Gros made a reckless challenge in his box, and he brought down the Egyptian international. The Reds were much better throughout the game, and they had several big chances to increase the lead. Anyway, these three points came after a loss to Man City, and they are a huge boost of morale, before the upcoming matches of the leaders in the standings.

Chelsea as Planned

Chelsea defeated Newcastle with 2-1, The Blues got the lead after nine minutes. Pedro received one long pass from David Luiz, and sent the ball over Newcastle’s goalkeeper. Ciaran Clark leveled the score five minutes before the halftime, and from that moment on the Magpies started defending, as they usually do. The home team was more aggressive in the second half and Willian managed to break the lock of Benitez’s side, in the 57th minute, setting the final score.

Fulham suffered another loss, while on the other side, Burnley won their fourth straight contest. It was 2-1 for the Clarets, who were behind after only two minutes of play and Schurrle’s. But an amazing thing happened. The next two goals in Fulham’s net were after their players put it there. Joe Bryan in the 20th and Denis Odoi three minutes later, completely turned this game upside down. The Cottagers are second to the last, and it appears that they don’t have a bright future considering the relegation battle.

Double Zero in Wales

The same applies to Huddersfield who managed to snap one point from Wales and the game against Cardiff City. We saw a dull and boring performance, which ended without goals, and without any notable situations. Cardiff is also near the bottom one point above the relegation zone.

Crystal Palace was leading against Watford, but in the end, the Eagles lost at home, 1-2. Craig Cathcart scored an own goal in the 38th minute, but the same player redeemed himself and leveled the score in 67th. Seven minutes later, Tom Cleverly brought three points to the guests, who only had two shots on goal during the entire game.

Leicester was stunned in the first half at Kings Power stadium. Southampton scored twice, the second time even with a player fewer on the field after Yan Valeri’s red card. Ward-Prowse and Shane Long hit for the guests, while Wilfred Ndidi decreased the lead in the 58th minute. The Foxes were pressuring until the end, but the ball didn’t finish behind the backs of Southampton’s defenders and goalkeeper. Saints won, 1-2.

Two matches are scheduled for tomorrow, Everton vs Bournemouth and Tottenham vs Man United, while Man City hosts Wolverhampton on Monday.
