The biggest sensation in football this year, Erling Haaland, amazed the world once again. This time on his debut for Borussia Dortmund. The youngster from Norway scored three goals igniting his team after a poor first half.
Halland’s 20-Minute Hat-trick
Borussia clashed with Augsburg on the road in the 18th round of the German Bundesliga. The former European champions won this clash with 5-3, but only after their latest signing, Erling Halland entered the pitch and made a stunning debut.
The rising superstar netted three times in 20 minutes, shifting the momentum onto Borussia’s side, and erasing a 2-0 deficit his new team had.
Things weren’t looking good for the Millionaires during the opening 45 minutes. Marco Reus and the company were missing fantastic chances, with their teammates in the back line looking awfully poor with insecure interventions.
Reus had two golden opportunities but failed to convert either of them, while Jadon Sancho’s shot from a solid position went over the bar.
There is an unwritten rule in football, once you don’t use your chances, the punishment from the other side comes, and that was exactly what happened. Florian Niederlechner executed a fantastic counter-attack in the 34th minute to give his team a lead. This was the result at the end of the first 45 minutes.
The second half started with a shock for the visiting team. Marco Richter netted after less than half a minute, doubling the lead of the hosts.
Shortly after, Julian Brandt cut the lead to 2-1, but the home team responded through Niederlechner for another score.
Then came Erling Haaland in the 56th minute, replacing Lukasz Piszczek. Three minutes later, he scored his first goal for the new club. And 120 seconds afterward, Sancho netted another one to level the result.
Halland hit the back of the net once more, in the 70th minute, and nine minutes later completed his hat-trick for his remarkable presentation to the German audience. The 19-year old became the 7th player in the Bundesliga to score three goals on his debut, needing only 10 touches. The last one who did that was also Borussia’s striker, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
The sensational player once again showcased why many believe that he might be the next best thing following the appearance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Path to Dortmund
Nobody expected to see Haaland in Dortmund, and it was quite a shock once he signed for the Millionaires. According to various sources, confirmed from reliable sources, Manchester United was the first in the line for landing the prolific striker, and right behind the Red Devils were Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich.
Back then, many also anticipated that he might end up in Red Bull Leipzig since this side has the same owner as Red Bull Salzburg, Halland’s club at the time.
He moved to Salzburg on the 1st of January 2019 from the Norwegian powerhouse, Molde, the same club Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used to coach before taking over Manchester United.
He scored a hat-trick against Genk on his Champions League debut, and later on continued to harass the opponents, delivering a score in five consecutive UCL appearances and becoming the biggest story of the competition.
