Euro 2020: Daily Results (June 16) – Bale Inspires Impressive Wales Win

  • Euro 2020 daily round-up.
  • Three fixtures across Groups A and B.
  • Gareth Bale inspired performance edges Wales closer to knockout rounds.

Day six of this summer’s delayed Euros saw three more fixtures played across Groups A and B.

Finland were looking to replicate their earlier win against Denmark when they took on Russia.

There was a ‘must-win’ game in Group B as winless Turkey took on Gareth Bale’s Wales in a crucial encounter.

Elsewhere, early tournament contenders Italy were playing host to Switzerland.

In what was another exciting day of matches at Euros 2020, Russia picked up their first three points after attacking midfielder Aleksei Miranchuk fired home the only goal of the game.

Wales, led by Rob Page, knew a win, on top of their opening draw against Switzerland, would put them in with a great chance of qualifying from the group stage and the ‘Red Dragon’ did not disappoint.

Despite missing a second-half penalty, captain and Real Madrid star Bale led his countrymen to an inspired 2-0 victory.

Finally, rounding the day’s action off saw Roberto Mancini’s impressive Italy dismantle Switzerland in another near-perfect 3-0 win.

Red Dragon on Form as Bale Roars and Ramsey Fires

Despite being 31-years-old and very much out of favor at club side Real Madrid, attacker Gareth Bale rolled back the years and reminded soccer fans why he is still one of the best.

In what was a hugely impressive performance from start to finish from the Welshman, despite missing a second half penalty, Bale’s two direct contributions ensured his country are now odds-on-favorites to reach the Euros’ knockout stage.

The first half in Wednesday’s match against Turkey saw Bale fire in several pin-point through balls to teammate and Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

Having missed a glaring opportunity early on, the former Arsenal attacker took his second in excellent fashion.

Despite rallying round and putting up a decent fight, Page’s Dragons were too much for Turkey to handle.

A late corner saw Bale opt against keeping possession and instead go on a marauding run into his opponent’s box.

Choosing to lay the ball off to the on-rushing Connor Roberts who slotted the ball home, Bale’s two assists certainly helped fire his side three points clear in Group A’s automatic qualification spots.
