Euro 2020: Daily Round-Up (June 11)

  • Euro 2020 daily round-up.
  • Tournament opener – Group A: Italy vs. Turkey.
  • Italians make sure delayed Euros are worth the wait.

Friday marked the start of this summer’s long-awaited European Championship.

With a month of non-stop soccer action set to take place, sport-loving fans will be able to enjoy as many as 51 top-tier international fixtures.

Following the competition’s opening ceremony which saw Andrea Bocelli serenade onlookers with a spine-tingling version of ‘Nessun Dorma’, fans were then treated to a mouth-watering tie between Italy and outsiders Turkey.

Spinazzola Superb as Italians Stuff Turkey

Despite being many fans’ shout for an upset, Turkey, led by Senol Gunes, failed to live up to their pre-tournament hype.

As Friday’s Euros 2020 opener kicked off, it became clear from the very early stages that the Italians were much the better side.

Pressing the ball well and retaining an exceptionally high tempo, it was always going to be a long night for Gunes’ men.

Although Italy had many standout performers, Roma left-back Leonardo Spinazzola was superb from start to finish.

Defending competently whenever called upon and bombing forward, the 28-year-old full-back enjoyed an excellent evening’s work.
