Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City are going to the FA Cup semifinals after they successfully overcame their opponents today.
Chelsea Eliminates Leicester, Arsenal’s Thriller Finish
The derby of the quarterfinals took place at King Power Stadium, where Chelsea managed to defeat Leicester City, 0-1. That one goal was scored in the 67th minute by Ross Barkley.
Previously we haven’t seen much interesting stuff in the opening half, with both sides having just one good chance each. However, Chelsea started the second part of the event much more aggressive, and that paid off after 22 minutes.
Barkley used Willian’s superb assist, to bring his team a lead, which would eventually turn out to be the final score. The same player had one big chance until the end of the contest, but Kasper Schmeichel denied his effort.
Arsenal’s Dani Ceballos delivered a stunner in the first minute of the stoppage time, once he netted to lift his team to a win over Sheffield United, 2-1, and to push them into the semis of the FA Cup.
The Spaniard scored a nice goal four minutes after the United’s equalizer. It was the 87th minute when David McGoldrick used the poor concentration of Arsenal’s defense, scoring for 1-1. At that point, it seemed that the momentum might be switching sides, but pretty fast after that hypothesis went down the drain.
Arsenal got the lead in the 25th minute, when Nicolas Pepe used a penalty previously awarded to his side.
Sheffield had its chances in this event. Two of Blades’ goals have been disallowed, both of them because of offside. Apart from that, there were moments once this side played really well
United After Extra-Time, City Routinely
Manchester United had to work hard in order to eliminate the last-placed team in the English Premier League, Norwich. The Red Devils won 2-1 at Carrow Road, but only after extra-time.
Solskajer decided to mix the lineup a little bit and to give a chance to some of the players who weren’t that frequently on the field, which was immediately felt.
On the other side, Norwich played with its best eleven and fought with 100% of its capabilities.
There were no goals in the opening half, but the second one was much more interesting. United drew the first blood through Ighalo, in the 51st minute, and Norwich responded in the 75th with Todd Canwell netting. With 1-1 after the regular time, both sides had to go into overtimes, and luckily for the Red Devils, Harry Maguire reacted the best after one chaos in the box and scored a game-winning goal.
City meanwhile didn’t have any such problems. Guardiola’s boys were routine at St.James Park, 0-2. Red-hot Kevin de Bruyne and Rahim Steerling scored one goal each. The Belgian superstar did that from the penalty in the 37th minute, while pacey striker hit the back of the net in the 67th.
We also learned the pairs of the semifinals. Arsenal will clash with Manchester City, and on the other side, United faces Chelsea. The games take place on July 18 and 19.
