Red Bull Leipzig defeated Mainz on the road, trashing the hosts. Augsburg demolished Schalke, and Koln and Dusseldorf split one point each in the last games of Bundesliga‘s round 27.
Timo Werner Smashes Mainz
One of the best strikers in Europe, Timo Werner, scored three goals, in Leipzig’s 0-5 win against Mainz on the road today. We could see why top European teams want to land the fantastic attacker, who exploded over the last two years.
Werner was unstoppable, displaying every bit of his qualities and once again highlighting his candidature for the best player of this Bundesliga campaign.
He would score the first goal in the 11th minute, breaking the ice in this match. Three minutes into the second period, the German star netted another one, and 15 minutes before the final whistle, Werner completed his hat-trick, setting the finals score.
In between, we saw Yussuf Poulsen, and Marcel Sabitzer adding one goal each.
After 8-0 in the first half of the season, Red Bull inflicted another catastrophe to Mainz, keeping them close to the relegation zone. They are now just three points away from the red line and are about to have a massive challenge ahead of them in the next few weeks.
On the other hand, Red Bull is third now, with 54 points and theoretical chances for the title. They need to see Bayern losing in Dortmund this Tuesday and then to have some wild and lucky ending, which would go in their favor.
As for Werner, it seems that the Bull can’t keep him following this season. He is just too good to stay in Leipzig, and numerous top European clubs are sending offers on a daily basis to his current club.
The latest team who jumped in the race for the prolific striker is Inter Milan, who showed serious interest. The three-time European champions want to sell Lautaro Martinez and use that cash to buy Werner and pair the German alongside Romelu Lukaku.
Liverpool is going to be the biggest obstacle for that plan, because of Jurgen Klopp’s desire to buy his compatriot and add more depth to the Reds’ attack.
Schalke Destroyed at Home
Augsburg rolled over Schalke in Gelsenkirchen, beating the hosts with 0-3. It was another frustrating match for the Miners and their fans, as they now have nine straight games without a victory.
Augsburg, however, snapped a four-game losing streak, which was pulling them down to the relegation zone and a troublesome ending of the championship. Fortunately for the team from Bavaria, they are now nine points away from that area and seven points ahead of the position, which leads to the play-out.
Eduard Lowen, Noah Joel Sarenren Bazee and Sergio Cordova all scored one goal in this event, propelling their team towards the middle of the table.
And in the last game of the round, we saw a draw between FC Koln and Dusseldorf with the result 2-2. The home team is still 10th in the standings while Fortuna sits 16th in the position, which leads to the playoffs. They are three points behind Mainz, who is safe.
