Shanghai ATP 100 Masters is currently the biggest deal in the tennis world. Today’s matches brought much excitement because several of them were ended after three periods of play, meaning that the battles were both exhausting and interesting.

Federer Eliminates Medvedev

Of course, everybody waited to see Roger Federer who faced Danil Medvedev. After three sets, the Swiss legend defeated the young Russian. The result was 6:4 in each part of the event, with the note that Federer won the opening one. The difference in years between the two participants was 15 years, and yet that didn’t prevent them from putting on a fantastic show which lasted almost two hours.
Early in the first set, Federer took the serve of his opponent and gained a 2:0 lead, but the Russian hit back and entered an open shootout. Eventually, he didn’t have enough experience to resist Federer who made another break.
When everybody thought that this would be the end of a match and that Medvedev is not going to be able to recover from his defeat, he rose to the occasion and showed that he is one of the top players in this sport. He was constantly near FedEx in the second set, and in the end, he managed to use his first set point and level the score.
The peak of excitement was seen in the third set, when Federer saved a break point for 4:4, and instantly used the momentum and took the service from his opponent. Ultimately, this was the deciding moment of this event.
In eight matches against Medvedev, this one was his 7th win, along with one loss. His next rival will be Roberto Bautista who eliminated the American player, Mackenzie McDonald. That clash also saw three sets, and the Spaniard even managed to come back from behind after losing the opening one. The final result was 3:6 6:4 6:1

The winner of this matchup will face the better from Sam Querrey vs Kei Nishikori. The American defeated his countryman Taylor Fritz with 6:3 6:7 7:5 after a long and difficult match in which we saw a battle of two strong hitters. Nishikori meanwhile also played three sets against Yibing Wu, the favorite of the home crowd, who had a lead after the first part of the match. Wu won the opening set with 6:3, but Nishikori turned things around and swept the Chinese in the second set without a single game lost, and easily clinched the third one with 6:3.

Delpo Wins a Close Clash Against Gasquet

In other matches, Juan Martin Del Potro defeated another veteran of this sport, Richard Gasquet with 7:5 7:6, in a close game. The spectators in Shanghai saw one very nice match with lots of beautiful moves, and also, with high intensity. In the end, the Argentinian player won, but it wouldn’t be a pity if the French progressed tot he next phase.

Alexander Zverev defeated Basilashvili, De Minaur eliminated Benoit Paire, and Kyle Edmund won over Andreas Seppi.
