NCAAB: #9 Florida Atlantic vs #8 Memphis Odds, and Picks (Mar 17)

  • Florida Atlantic continued to surge with a 78-56 win over UAB.
  • Memphis stunned #1 Houston in the AAC final, winning 75-65.
  • This will be the very first matchup between these two teams in their program histories.

Florida Atlantic (31-3) and Memphis (26-8) face off in a stellar bout between two dominant mid-major teams. The winner of this game will certainly pose a legitimate threat to #1 Purdue in the 2nd round.

Game Preview

Florida Atlantic finished off a historic regular season with a dominant, 22-point win over UAB in the C-USA finals. They currently sit at 31-3 on the year, posing a legitimate threat to both #8 Memphis, and potentially #1 Purdue. The Owls are capable on both ends of the court, ranking in the top-40 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Memphis does too, so they’ll still have to be at their best to win.

Memphis got their best win of the season in their final game, taking down the #1 team in the country, Houston, by 10-points. With the AAC title locked up, the Tigers will shift their focus to the tournament, where they got a brutal draw against 31-3 FAU. Memphis has the talent to make a deep run, but faces a brutal path with Purdue and Duke nearby as well. They’ll need to topple FAU in this one first.

Picks

This is a frustrating matchup by the committee. Both FAU and Memphis are great teams that could have made deep runs had they been matched up with one of the SEC or Big-10 8/9 seeds. Instead, one of them is guaranteed to lose here. Both are red-hot after winning their conference titles. I see Memphis’ win over Houston and close loss to Alabama as proof they can hang with the best.
