Event Details & Past Winners
The Rocket Mortgage Classic hasn’t been on the PGA Tour calendar for that long, as this will only be the third renewal of the event. The very first Rocket Mortgage Classic took place in 2019, as the event was won by Nate Lashley. Lashley remains the record holder for both the aggregate and to par scores at the event. He won the PGA Tour event by six strokes from Doc Redman to finish -25 under par. However, there was an increased purse for the event in 2020, with $7.5 million up for grabs. That increased purse ensured a number of bigger names headed to Detroit to compete for the title.
Bryson DeChambeau was the most recent winner of the event, as he scored 265 to finished 23 under par. DeChambeau held off the threat from Matthew Wolff to finish three shots clear at the top of the leaderboard. There is a par 72 at this event, as 7,294 yards are covered. It is a stroke play event, and once again, the purse available to players this year stands at $7.5 million.
The betting market doesn’t lie when it comes to the leading player in the field for the event this weekend. Bryson DeChambeau was in excellent form as he won this event 12 months ago, as he overpowered the field in emphatic style. DeChambeau has finished strongly over recent weeks and brings good form into this event. He finished in a tie for 17th in last weekend’s Travelers Championship, and course form could be a huge indicator towards another strong run at the championship for the American this weekend.
Patrick Reed also brings some course form into the event, as he finished in the top five back in 2019. His short-form game has been impressive over recent weeks, but he just missed out on laying down a serious challenge at the recent US Open. There are bigger prizes for many of the other players in contention this weekend. Brendon Todd could be one at a bigger prize, who could go well.
