The featured race at Churchill Downs on Friday comes in the form of the G1 Clark Stakes. This race is the eleventh on the card, and a field of seven will line up to run over 1 1/8 miles. In truth, this is one of the weakest Grade 1s that I have seen in the U.S. for some time, but unsurprisingly, the betting is dominated by Rich Strike.
The three-year-old for Eric Reed famously won the Kentucky Derby back in May, and has competed in some extremely prestigious races since then. This is a track that Rich Strike loves, evident from the fact that he has never finished outside the top two. His last run over this distance came in the G2 Lukas Classic, as he finished second behind Hot Rod Charlie. However, his fourth in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic is undeniably the best piece of form in this race.
If you’re looking to take on Rich Strike, then the G2 Fayette Stakes could hold the key. West Will Power was very impressive over the distance at Keeneland, scoring a speed figure of 113.

He has already won at Churchill Downs this season, scoring a figure of 101. Some other leading contenders finished behind the Brad Cox runner on that day, with Fulsome taking second and Last Samurai finishing in third.

I’d be keen to take on Rich Strike on Friday, based purely on the fact that this is incredibly close to his massive effort in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Proxy looks to be the value play after finishing third in the G2 Stephen Foster, behind Classic runner-up Olympiad. The Michael Stidham-trained runner is one of the freshest contenders coming into the race, and that looks like a massive bonus.

The interesting betting race of the day is the G2 Mrs Revere Stakes. This is the ninth race due off at Churchill Downs, and it will see fillies aged three compete over 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Many fans will be keen to see the condition of the turf, as Churchill Downs has had issues with the turf course throughout the season.
I’d expect the market to move a lot on Saturday, as the top two in the betting look incredibly short. California Angel looks like the bigger danger out of the two, as she was excellent over 1 1/8 miles at Keeneland when taking fourth in the G1 QE II Challenge Cup. That was followed by a second over this distance in the G3 Valley View.
Lovely Princess could be one of the big movers in the market for Kenneth McPeek, as she was a fine winner in allowance company over 1 1/8 miles at Keeneland last month. She also has a victory over a re-appearing rival, after beating Quality Star in a maiden special weight over this distance.
Lady Puchi is another for McPeek, and she will relish the conditions at Churchill Downs on Friday. The three-year-old was back in sixth in the G3 Valley View on her previous start, but she was a fine winner at Keeneland over a mile in the middle of October. She looks better prepared for a strong bid over this trip on Friday.

I am really drawn to Lovely Princess for this stakes contest on Friday, as I think there is more improvement to come over this trip. Meanwhile, Have A Good Day looks open to progress over this trip after landing some prestigious prize money in graded company in France last year. This distance could be perfect for her.
