The Grade III Gotham Stakes will take place on Saturday at the Aqueduct Racetrack in New York. The race will be the final stop in New York on the road to the Kentucky Derby, and three-year-olds involved will be looking to rubberstamp their entry to the Triple Crown event with a win in this race.

Freedom Fighter for trainer Bob Baffert and Highly Motivated for trainer Chad C Brown are the two leading contenders for the race this weekend. Freedom Fighter returned to the track after a 189-day absence at the beginning of February, as he finished second in the San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita. Highly Motivated has won his last two, but this will be his first run since the beginning of November. Freedom Fighter could be a better chance having run more recently, and we expect him to build on the second he achieved at Santa Anita last time out.

Frank E. Kilroe Mile Preview & Picks

The only Grade I of the day comes in the form of the Frank E. Kilroe Mile, which will be taking place at Santa Anita. This race will be run over one mile and was won by River Boyne 12 months ago, who is trained by Jeff Mullins.

This promises to be an exciting renewal of the race, and there are a number of horses that could be in contention. Flavius for trainer Chad C Brown finished second last time out at Del Mar, behind Count Again, and could be a solid chance for improvement. Hit The Road returned to the track after more than a year away with a three and a quarter length victory at Santa Anita last month and is a strong contender. However, it would be hard to see past Ride A Comet, who has won his last three after a 775-day break away from the track.

San Felipe Stakes Preview & Picks

Fans will also be able to see a number of Triple Crown hopefuls in action in the San Felipe Stakes on Saturday. The Grade II race has been a prep race in the past for Kentucky Derby winners such as Affirmed, California Chrome, and Sunday Silence and is run at Santa Anita.

All eyes will be on Life Is Good this weekend, as the Bob Baffert-trained horse is already among the favorites for the Kentucky Derby later in the year. He made his racing debut in early January with a win at Santa Anita, and it will be hard to bet against the three-year-old this weekend give Baffert’s incredible record in this race, as he has trained the winner on seven occasions throughout his career.

Some of the horses that will be competing in the Grand National this year will be in action at Doncaster, United Kingdom, on Saturday. The race will be a perfect prep run for the big Aintree date, as it is run over a distance of three miles and two furlongs.

The horse that we have picked for our ante-post selection for the Grand National runs in this race on Saturday, as Cloth Cap will be looking for a second straight win for Jonjo O’Neill. He has decent form at the track, as he finished second at Doncaster in December 2019. OK, Corral and Canelo also both hold entries for the Grand National, but this will be a huge step up in the trip for both. That means it would be hard to see past Cloth Cap.
