- The Hurricanes are 6-0-1 at home this season
- The Lightning are 4-3-1 at home this season
- The Hurricanes have won both meetings so far against the Lightning this season
Tampa Bay has continued their slide down the Central Division standings as they now are in fourth place following a shutout loss to the Hurricanes. This was not just a shutout loss but a 4-0 blowout type fashion which puts doubts in many people’s minds if this team can regain its composure when playing the best teams the league has to offer.
This also was the second shutout win against the Lightning for the Hurricanes which catapulted them up to the top of the East Division with 25 points. Tampa is out to prove that they can still play with the best teams in their division but can they somehow overcome this stifling Carolina defense?

Lightning vs Hurricanes Preview
Tampa Bay In Unfamiliar Territory
As losers of three out of their last five, the Lightning are in desperate need of finding some answers when facing good competition this season. I’m not seeing any reason why they cannot turn it around however this season with the lineup they have; consistency will just need to be key down the stretch.
Despite having four shots get past him, Andrei Vasilevskiy is still playing at a high level. He is 9-3-1 on the season with a save percentage of nearly 93 percent. This is why the team as a whole is averaging less than three goals allowed on just 27 shots. However, the big thing that has been killing them this season has been their penalty minutes in which they have 164 total.
Hurricanes Top of The Food Chain
As winners of four of their last five games, Carolina is playing their best hockey of the season. They have beaten or played close some of the best opponents in their division this year proving they belong at the top of the standings. Responsible for this win streak has been the defense of Carolina finally catching up with the offensive dominance they have displayed all season.
Starter in net James Reimer has been good enough for Carolina to grab an 8-1-0 record despite having a below 90 percent save average. Still, the team as a whole is averaging less than three goals allowed and only letting opponents get off 28 shots on average. The difference for this team however is the offense without a doubt. Sebastian Aho is known for his goal-scoring ability but instead has distributed the puck with ease racking up 10 assists leading to a goal average of 3.69 for Carolina.
Lightning vs Hurricanes Prediction & Pick
Who wins NHL game tonight between Lightning vs Hurricanes
The Hurricanes have looked straight up unbeatable when facing Tampa Bay outscoring them 5-0 combined in two games. So I have no choice but to go with the team that has the hot hand and that’s Carolina. They are playing great hockey right now and have yet to lose a game in regulation at home while clearly displaying they can weather any storm the Lightning throw at them.
