Embarrassing – this is the word that best describes the recent performances of the San Jose Sharks. They lost four of their previous five games, three of which were against the division’s worst team, the Anaheim Ducks. They need to snap out of the nightmarish run if they want to stay in the race for the postseason. Getting two points from tonight’s Sharks vs Wild game would help them a lot.

Sharks vs Wild Preview

San Jose Needs to Start Playing Better ASAP

Time is running out for the San Jose Sharks to get themselves to a playoff position in the West Division. They’re currently four points behind the #4 team in the standings, the St. Louis Blues.

They also have three points fewer than the Coyotes, who are in the #5 place but who have played two games more.

A playoff spot is within reach for San Jose, but the trouble is that this team has been playing horrible lately. They lost four of their previous five games, even though three of those were against one of the worst teams in the NHL – the Anaheim Ducks.

The Sharks have been abysmal in the defense throughout the season. In fact, they’re the team with the highest number of conceded goals in the division, with 141 goals in 42 games.

Until recently, their attack was able to cover for their dreadful defense. However, since the start of the month, San Jose’s forwards have been out of shape. In the four losses the Sharks suffered in April, this team scored only four goals in total.

Minnesota Getting Ready for the Postseason

With 25 wins, 13 losses, and three overtime losses, Minnesota has collected 53 points in 2021. The Wild are safe in the #3 place in the West and are very likely to get to the playoffs.

Even though this team has to play 15 games before the end of the regular season, it’s almost certain they will stay among the top four in the West.
Still, this doesn’t mean they should relax. The #2 place in the division is within reach, as Vegas has only seven points more, as well as one game played more.

Furthermore, playing well in the remainder of the season could help their fans forget about the horrific defeat they suffered a week ago. As a reminder, the Wild got demolished by the Blues 9-1 on Friday evening, which was the worst loss in the history of the franchise.
