Hotly-Anticipated Tyson Return
Mike Tyson’s return has been something that has been muted for some time now, with the former heavyweight champion reportedly keen for a bout against Tyson Fury. That would have been a blockbuster event, but one that may have been unfair considering that Fury is at the pinnacle of the sport at present. Instead, he will make his long-awaited return in this exhibition bout. Both fighters reportedly wear protective head gear and wear larger gloves. The fight will also take place over eight round as opposed to the typical twelve.
Tyson’s achievements in the ring were well documented, and he has been posting regular workout videos on his social media pages, which have left fans in awe of the condition of the 54-year-old. Iron Mike hasn’t been seen in a competitive boxing bout since 2005 when he was beaten by Kevin McBride. Tyson stepped in the ring with some of the best during his career, as he stood opposite famous champions such as Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Frank Bruno and Tony Tucker. Tyson was also the undisputed world heavyweight champion for three years between August 1987 and February 1990.
Jones Jr Offers Competitive Opponent
Roy Jones Jr has already revealed that he will go into this fight as the underdog, but there is no doubting his capabilities within the squared circle. No fighter in the history of the sport has won by light heavyweight unification fights. Meanwhile, he was named fighter of the year in 2003 by the World Boxing Hall of Fame, and was named fighter of the year in 1994 by The Ring Magazine. His record included an impressive 66 wins in 75 bouts, which included victories over Danny Garcia, Bernard Hopkins and Jorge Castro.
There is a feeling that Jones Jr will actually come into this fight with a big advantage as he is three years younger than Tyson and has been active in professional bouts over the past three years. Jones Jr was last in a boxing ring back in February 2018 as he won the WBU cruiserweight title after beating Scott Sigmon via unanimous decision. However, this will be a huge step up.
Early Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr Prediction
It should be an enthralling night of action, which will capture the imagination of all fight fans around the world. Only time will tell whether this is the first step for Tyson ahead of a professional return, but he will go into the fight as the favourite. Jones Jr is no slouch in the ring however, and his recent record in the ring would indicate that Tyson should not be taking him lightly.
