Lewandowski Without Ballon d’Or, Messi Wins for the Seventh Time

  • Lionel Messi controversially wins his seventh Balon d’Or award ahead of the fan-favorite Robert Lewandowski.
  • Chelsea has been named the Team of the Year.
  • Alexia Putellas won the ladies’ Ballon d’Or award.

The fans around the world were pretty surprised with tonight’s development in Paris, where Lionel Messi won the 2021 Ballon d’Or award. Social networks are buzzing about the injustice inflicted upon Bayern Munich’s star, Robert Lewandowski, who had two impressive seasons behind him.

No Love for Lewa

Despite being the best player in the world back in 2020, when COVID-19 madness began, and despite him breaking all the possible records in this calendar year, Robert Lewandowski had to settle with second place in the Ballon d’Or race.

He was given the Striker of the Year award, which was established just before the ceremony, raising the suspicion that Messi had to win the Golden Ball. It was his seventh award so far, but the first one for a player from the French club since 1991. That’s why the majority of the fans assume France Football favored Messi over Bayern’s striker, who had far better stats than the legendary Argentinian.

After accepting the award, Messi admitted that the trophy should be in Lewandowski’s hands, but that won’t be too much consolation for the Pole, who didn’t get the honor in 2020 because COVID-19 canceled the event.

Chelsea and Italy’s, Jorginho ended third, while Cristiano Ronaldo finished sixth.

Ballon d’Or Féminin Goes to Alexia Putellas

Barcelona and Spain, Alexia Puttellas is the best female player. The 27-year old was the best player in Blaugrana who won the UEFA Champions League beating Chelsea 4-0 in the finals. Putellas scored one goal in the finals.

Previously, UEFA awarded the fantastic midfield with the Women’s player of the Year award and the Midfielder of the Year award.

Chelsea the Best Club, Donnarumma the Best Goalkeeper

The European champions, Chelsea, won the Best Team award. The start of the previous campaign wasn’t promising too much for the Blues, but after a switch at the head coaching position and Thomas Tuchel’s arrival, everything flipped in a short period.

Chelsea had one of the strongest defenses in Europe, and they started posting extremely well results, culminating with a victory over Manchester City in the UCL finals.

Meanwhile, Gianluigi Donnarumma was the hero of the Italian national team at the recently ended EURO. PSG’s goalkeeper was arguably the most important guy in the title quest. That is why he won the award for the best player in the tournament.

As expected, Pedri won the Best Young Player Award. Barcelona and Spain teenager amazed everyone with his fantastic performances and superb endurance, playing more than 85 games in the season. He didn’t have a pause during this summer, due to his participation at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and after that at the EURO.

According to the sources from the famous Spanish club, the new manager, Xavi, plans to build the entire game around the youngster.
