Event Details & Field
This weekend will be the first time that the LIV Golf Invitational Portland has been held. The inaugural season of LIV Golf events has been plagued with backlash, with players involved often questioned surrounding their motives for joining the series and whether they have questioned the poor human rights record of the Saudis that are lining their pockets. On the course, it also wasn’t the best weekend for players involved in the breakaway tour, with Louis Oosthuizen, Phil Mickelson, and Sergio Garcia all missing the cut at the U.S. Open a few weeks ago.
Like all events in the series, the event in Portland will be another money-spinning event with a huge purse offering $25 million. The winning player will pick up $4 million, while each member of the winning team will collect $750,000. Since the LIV Invitational London, a number of high-profile players have switched allegiances from the PGA Tour, including four-time major winner Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.
Leading Contenders
Dustin Johnson heads the betting for the second LIV Golf Invitational event. He finished the event in London back in a tie for seventh and was six shots off the lead. He was one of the better performers at the U.S. Open a few weeks back, as he finished in a tie for 24th. The 38-year-old is yet to win an event since claiming success at the Saudi International in February 2021.
The most pressure to perform this weekend will likely be on Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, who will be playing LIV Golf for the first time this weekend. Koepka looks to have the better chance of the two, as he has already finished in the top 20 on three occasions this season.
LIV Golf Invitational Portland Pick and Prediction
