Two of the top teams in baseball meet for an interleague series starting on Tuesday night. The Los Angeles Dodgers sit at 31-17 while the Tampa Bay Rays are 27-17. They two teams meet in a quick two-game series as part of the Dodgers’ East Coast swing. Los Angeles took two of three from the Reds before this series and will end their road trip by playing a three-game set in Pittsburgh.
The Rays are coming home for a bit of an odd schedule here in the latter part of the month. They just finished up a series against the Yankees on the road, and after this two-game series, they head to Cleveland for four games before coming back home. There has been lots of traveling between series for the Rays with no off days, and that is starting to wear them down as they have fallen out of first place in the AL East. As of this writing, the odds have not been posted.
Dodgers Try to Extend Lead
The Dodgers are hot right now, and they hold a crazy 5.5-game lead in the NL West. If the Dodgers keep up their pace, the division will be wrapped up by the end of July. They have been really good at home with a 19-6 record but have been average away from Los Angeles with a 12-11 record. The Dodgers have a +65 run differential, which is the best mark in the National League and third overall in baseball. The Dodgers are 7-3 in their last 10 games and will have Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the first game of the series.
Rays Look to Regain Division Lead
The Rays have been struggling a little as of late, falling out of first place after their dominant start fueled by their pitching. The Rays have only allowed 141 runs this year, which is the best in the league by far. The Reds have allowed the second most runs in the league, and they have allowed 165 runs to cross. The Rays are just a half-game back of the Yankees, who took over the top spot with a win yesterday over the Rays. The Rays starter has not been named yet as of this writing, but it would be Charlie Morton’s turn in the rotation. Morton has been solid this year, though not as good as Kershaw. But he will still put you in position to win games.
Rays Hoping to Contain Dodgers Hitters
This is going to be a fun series for a myriad of reasons. Both teams have good pitching going in this series, but the Dodgers have the stronger lineup. It’ll be a fun series between two of the top teams in baseball, and look for the team that can score three or more runs in a game to win. The opening game will be good with Kershaw on the mound. Look for the Dodgers’ bats to come alive late and win a low-scoring game. My money would be on the Dodgers with Kershaw on the mound.
