Chelsea and Manchester United secured the Champions League place in the last round of the Premiership. Also, Aston Villa survived in the top tier of English football, while on the other side, Watford will play in the Championship next season.
United Beats Leicester in a Direct Clash For the UCL
This game was the central event of the day in England, and we might say that it justified the hype surrounding it. The Red Devils won 2-0, thanks to the massive mistakes of Leicester’s defense.
At first, Evans and Wes Morgan made a reckless tackle in the box, to bring down Martial in the 71st minute of the match. Bruno Fernandes once again showed that he has ice in his veins, cooly deceiving Kasper Schmeichel.
From that moment on, Leicester started attacking with all of its power, but nothing changed. Furthermore, Schmeichel made one big mistake which would allow Lingard to score in the stoppage time.
United is third, and Leicester finished fifth, even though something like this wasn’t expected just two months ago.
Chelsea’s Burst Takes Down Wolverhampton
Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud both scored in the stoppage time of the first half, to give their Blues an edge over the stubborn and tough guests from Wolverhampton.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s boys had their motive to win here, and that was the Europa League place, but they a short period in which they lost the focus would cost them a lot.
Mason Mount scored from a free-kick in the first minute of the stoppage time, breaking the ice for the Blues. It was a wonderful goal from Chelsea’s youngster and a massive morale boost.
Just a little bit over two minutes later, Giroud doubled the lead, which was something that completely killed the guests’ will for playing. Until the end of the match, we saw a few solid opportunities on both sides, with Chelsea being a better team.
Lampard’s boys ended fourth in the end, while Wolves finished seventh, and they now await to see what will happen in the FA Cup finals. If Chelsea wins, they are through, if not, Wolves won’t have the passage to the EL next year.
Aston Villa Stays in the League, Watford Out
Villa played 1-1 against West Ham on the road, narrowly escaping death. Jac Grealish scored in the 84th minute, and one minute plater, Andriy Yarmolenko netted an equalizer which was a product of fortune and the bad reaction of Villa’s goalkeeper.
The team from Birmingham survived for one point, and that happened because Watford lost in London against Arsenal, 3-2. The Hornets had their chances to level the result and avoid the trip to the Championship, but they lacked concentration and calmness in the finish.
In other games Premier League clashes, Liverpool defeated Newcastle on the road, 1-3, Southampton came back against Sheffield Wednesday, 3-1, Manchester City demolished Norwich, 5-0, Bournemouth was better than Everton at Goodison, 1-3. We also saw Brighton defeating Burnely with 1-2, and Crystal Palace and Tottenham ending their clash without a winner, 1-1.
Jamie Vardy is the best scorer of the league with 22 goals.
