Tonight we saw why most of the soccer fans believe that the Champions League is the best competition in the world. In the derby of the round, Manchester United managed to come back from behind, and deliver the first defeat for Juventus this season, in the late part of the second half. Everything happened in just three minutes, and the final result was 1:2 for the English club. It was truly magnificent to see Red Devils on the run in those moments.

Furious Ending in Turin

Cristiano Ronaldo brought the lead to Juventus with a wonderful goal, his first after six events. After avoiding United’s defense, Leonardo Bonucci sent a pass towards the Portuguese, who didn’t want to wait, and instead smashed it into the net of David De Gea. By the way, the Old Ladu from Turin was much better since the games started, and it is quite a miracle they didn’t get the lead earlier. Sami Khedira and Paulo Dybala both hit the woodwork, while Pjanic didn’t have enough concentration to execute properly.

But then, Juan Mata started playing. In the 83rd minute, he scored a beauty from a free-kick, and his team woke up. Just three minutes later we saw a huge crowd in Juventus’ box after one set piece, and the ball deflected from two home team’s players and entered the goal. When looking the scoresheet some of the reporters wrote that in fact, Paul Pogba put the ball behind the goal line.

The first match of Group A took place in Valencia where the hosts defeated Young Boys from Switzerland with 3:1. Juventus is still a leader with 9 points; United is second with 7, Valencia has 5, and Young Boys one point.

Real Madrid demolished Plzen, the Czech champion with 0:5. The reigning champions of Europe were looking like the team from the previous year, and it seems that the chemistry is once again felt among the players on the field. The same group, G, Roma won in Moscow against CSKA, 1:2 and almost secured the knockout stage. They and Real Madrid have 9 points each, CSKA has 4 and Victoria 1.

City Keeps on Pounding

Manchester City annihilated Shakhtar Donetsk with 6:0. The citizens were toying with the Ukrainian champion, who experienced one of the worst defeats in their history. The second match in that assembly was much more exciting. Lyon was leading against Hoffenheim 2:0 at the halftime and held the situation in their hands. They even had one player more on the field for more than 40 minutes, but in the end, the home team managed to ruin all that. Hoffenheim rose back from the dead and netted two goals, which shocked the whole stadium. City has 9 points, Lyon 6, Hoffenheim 3, and Shakhtar only one.

And finally, in Group E, Bayern had a routine job against the Greek champions AEK, defeating them with 2:0. The hosts didn’t want to spend too much energy as they have a big derby this weekend against Borussia Dortmund. In the second event, Benfica and Ajax played 1:1, and for now, the Dutch team is near the knockout phase. Bayern has 10 points, they have 8, Benfica 4, while sorry AEK didn’t manage to win a single point.
