Team News and Game Preview

The Mavericks are 5-8 in January and have gone 2-2 in the last four games. However, Thursday was tough to stomach for the Mavs and their fans as Luka Doncic left the game early in the first quarter and was ruled out with an ankle injury.

That’s a massive blow for Dallas, but Spencer Dinwiddie stepped up when he needed to most and finished with a game-high 36 points along with nine assists to lead Dallas to a 99-95 win over the Phoenix Suns.

Doncic is likely out for a couple of weeks at least, although there has been no official timeframe released. Without Doncic, this Mavs team is much different, although Dinwiddie’s performance on Thursday was an encouraging sign.

The Jazz are an even 6-6 in January and one game below .500 on the season. They have alternated wins and losses over the last four games and are coming off a 10-point loss to the Trail Blazers on Wednesday night.

Lauri Markkanen, who is likely headed for the All-Star Game, continues to lead the team and dropped 24 points against Portland in the loss. But Damian Lillard exploded with 60 points to give the Blazers the win.

Mavericks vs Jazz Prediction

Even when Luka Doncic was in the lineup, this Dallas team was struggling. Without their star point guard, the Mavs are a much different team and they could begin a long losing streak.

The Jazz are 2nd in the NBA in points scored (118 per game) and have six different players averaging double figures. The bottom line is this Jazz team knows how to play together, and Lauri Markkkanen continues to impress everybody. The Jazz get an easy home win by double digits against a Luka Doncic-less Mavs team.
