By · 70 days ago
  • Miami surged back to defeat Texas, winning by a score of 88-81.
  • UConn clobbered Gonzaga, 82-54, continuing to dominate.
  • These two teams last met on November 24, 2019, in a game that UConn won 80-55.

Miami (29-7) and UConn (29-8) match up for a top-tier brawl. Miami made their first-ever Final Four, and will seek to make their first title game as well. They will first need to topple the red-hot Huskies here.

Game Preview

Miami trailed Texas by double-digits for most of the game, but managed to completely turn things around, scoring 30 points in the last 10 minutes of the game and winning by 7. The Hurricanes defeated a 1, 2, and 4-seed in their last 3 games by an average of over 12 points per game, one of the most impressive paths of any team. All 5 starters reached double-figures for the 2nd straight game.

UConn continued their dominant tournament run against Gonzaga, winning by 28 points in an absolute walloping from start to finish. The Huskies have blown past all four of their tourney opponents so far, winning by an average of 22.5 points per game. Having gone from a 4-seed picked by few to win it all, to the new favorite to take home the title, UConn is suddenly facing some high expectations.

Picks

If you’ve been following my picks throughout the tourney, you know that I selected UConn to win the entire thing back on Selection Sunday. I was impressed by their 14-0 start of all double-digit victories, and saw them returning to that form as the regular season concluded, after a brief midseason slump. I really like Miami too, but I remain confident in my original pick for tournament champs.
