MLS Cup Odds (Updated): Bale’s Arrival Cements LAFC on Top

  • After signing Gareth Bale, LAFC cemented its position as a top favorite for winning the MLS Cup.
  • The reigning champs, NYCFC, are second but apparently on the decline following their head coach switch.
  • Philadelphia Union and Austin FC follow the leading duo.

The madness in the MLS began with Lorenzo Insigne’s and Giorgio Chiellini’s signatures and is further extended after Gareth Bale’s landing in LA. The famous Welshman signed with the FC, who is by far the top favorite for winning the MLS Cup at the end of the year.

Steve Cherundolo’s guys are +450 to win the title, and it seems that as time goes by, the rift between them and the others will increase. They play good football and top both the conference and the league standings in the middle of the campaign.

Though, the boys from LA didn’t get to play with Chiellini and Bale yet, and when these two guys hit the field, we can only imagine what would Cherundolo’s team look like.

Chiellini should make his debut on July 8 against Galaxy in El Trafico, if not even before. The situation with Bale suggests that his earlies appearance would be against the local rivals, maybe later.

Deila’s Departure a Big Blow for the Champs

Since the Norwegian manager went overseas and took Standard Liege, NYCFC has struggled. Three games without a win for the interim manager Nick Cushing aren’t a good start, and the pressure on the former Manchester City ladies’ leader is growing even as we write this article.

The fans are beginning to show frustration, and the FC is slowly losing its pace in the race for the No.1 place in Eastern Conference. They were atop of the standings with Deila in charge, but all that changed now.

The most recent loss against the direct rival for the title, Philadelphia Union, lowered their chances for the championship to +750, while Union went up to +850.

Austin Leading the Pack, Sounders the Biggest Name In It

Austin FC is +1100 to go all the way, and for the moment, this team presents pretty decent performances sitting near the top of the Western part of the league. Orlando City is +1400, the same as the CONCACAF Champions League champions, the Seattle Sounders.

Brian Schmezer’s unit is starting to show signs of life following a championship hangover, and the boys from the Lumen Field are getting back into the usual rhythm. We need to remind that this team has been one of the best in the MLS over the recent few years, with a built core that played together for quite a while. That is why many expect to see them quickly going up on this list and starting to pound.

Bruce Arena and the New England Revolution are +1600, and they too have quite the potential but are still inconsistent, while Real Salt Lake City sits at +1700. New York Red Bulls are +1800, and they end this assembly.

Behind are LA Galaxy +2100, Atlanta United +2200, FC Dallas +2200, and CF Montreal with the same odds.
