Updated Betting Odds to win National League MVP

As the season begins to turn toward its final stretch, the MVP candidates are starting to become clear. Read below for the players with the best odds to win the award in the NL.

Freddie Freeman (+150)

It’s been a fantastic year for the Braves first baseman, on pace for his first 200-hit season. He’s batting .321, with 20 HR’s and 77 RBI’s, while leading the Braves to the top spot in the NL East. He participated in the HR Derby, and has shown some real power.

Freeman has without a doubt been the Braves best player, and is a leading candidate to win the MVP. He is dominating this year, in a way we used to see Chipper Jones do. He continues to be great, and the consistency has been the most impressive part.

Nolan Arenado (+300)

Another big year from the Rockies 3B, has him near the top of the list of candidates once again. Arenado is batting .309 with 30 HR’s and 86 RBI’s, with 137 hits and 80 runs scored. He is in the same boat as Freeman with average, but ahead in the other categories.

Arenado has been robbed of multiple MVP’s at this point, and he should really have the chance to win this year. Record isn’t always taken into consideration, but even if it was, he has helped take Colorado into a wild-card spot. Beware of Nolan.

Paul Goldschmidt (+450)

After a very slow start to the season, Goldschmidt has rebounded well, and his average is now closing in on .300. He is batting .293 for the season, with 28 HR’s and 71 RBI’s. He has scored 78 runs, and his good eye at the plate has helped him to draw 76 walks.

He has taken the Diamondbacks to the top of the NL West, and though he isn’t too likely to win the award, it is impressive enough that he’s considered the player with the third best odds. Keep it going, Paul.

One of the best hitters in the game talks about much of his approach and how it’s mental:

“I know physically I am talented, I was good at a young age, so there’s definitely that part of it. But to get the big leagues and have success … how you improve is by the mental side.”

Bryce Harper (+800)

After a very poor start to the season, Harper has really rebounded in the second half. After his dominant HR Derby performance, he has completely come alive. His average is now nearly at .250, and he’s hit 30 HR’s and driven in 79 runs. He’s drawn 91 walks, while scoring 78 runs.

His team hasn’t looked good of late, but Harper will still have a chance at this award. If he can bring his average up 15-20 more points, and reach the 40-HR plateau, he can legitimately be considered. It’s a longshot, but he has a chance.
