Warriors On The Comeback Trail
It’s fair to say that the Golden State Warriors were disappointing last season, as they failed to reach the playoffs. They finished with a disappointing record of 15-50, which was also the first time since 2002 that they lost ten games in a row.
However, there were a number of factors put down to their poor form, most notably the injuries that hampered any kind of run at the playoffs. Add to that the departures of Andre Iguodala and Kevin Durant, and their backs were always likely to be against the wall.
This season has started in a different vein of form, as they have been able to welcome back Stephen Curry, who only played in five games in the 2019-20 season. The American’s form this season has been outstanding, as he has averaged 27.8 points per game. His best performance of the season came against the Portland Trailblazers, as he scored a career-high 62 points in the 137-122 victory. We will likely see how close the Warriors are to one of the leading sides in this game in Los Angeles.
Lakers Take Top Spot
It was a slow start to the season for the Los Angeles Lakers, but they have quickly retaken control of the Western Conference. Their recent sequence of three wins on the bounce has seen them overtake the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers at the summit, but there will still be areas where they will be keen to improve. The most alarming factor will be their home form, as they have suffered three defeats at the Staples Center already this term.
Teams that have beaten them at home include the Clippers, Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs. Away from home it has been a different story, as they have gone on a run of six unbeaten. One of their most recent wins on the road came against the Houston Rockets, as they beat their opponents 117-100. LeBron James scored 26 points in the win, while Anthony Davis finished with 19.
Recent Meetings Between Warriors/Lakers
The Lakers were dominant against the Warriors last season, as they won all three regular season games played between the sides. Los Angeles scored over 100 points in all three victories, while the Warriors could only break the 100-point barrier in their 125-120 defeat at Chase Center.
Warriors at Lakers Pick & Prediction
It will be interesting to see how the Warriors perform in this game, as they could put a marker down with a big performance in Los Angeles. However, there is still a clear gulf between the sides, and the Lakers should claim the victory.
