NCAAF Week 15: LSU at #6 Florida Vegas Odds, Pick, Preview (Dec 12)

This has been a season that has gone in opposite directions for these two programs after last year. The programs met last year in Death Valley with both of them playing at the highest level possible in a top ten matchup before the Gators lost a heartbreaker.

Fast forward to this crazy year, the Gators are threatening to get into the College Football Playoff again but the Tigers are nowhere near at the form they were at in 2019.

Florida has also already clinched the SEC championship and LSU faces many questions about their team in the offseason. With both teams essentially looking forward to bigger and better things past this game look for them to try some interesting tactics on offense or defense to test some things out.

LSU vs Florida Preview

A Game to Workout the Kinks for Both Teams

Presumable Last Home Game for Many Gator Upperclassmen

With many Gators offensive players predicted to leave for the NFL Draft early, aka Kyle Pitts and Kyle Trask, the Gators will look to show out in their last game at the Swamp. Other players like Trevon Grimes and Kadarius Toney are also suspected to leave for the draft after this season.

Still while they have them, the Gators have put them in the offense to the highest efficiency possible. With scoring at least 31 points a game, Trask has at least four touchdown passes in all of his games so far and 38 total on the season to just three interceptions. The offense as a whole is averaging 42 points a game through this pass heavy scheme as Kyle Pitts’ wide wingspan and Kadarius Toney’s elusiveness making them matchup nightmare’s for any opponent.

What Does LSU Bring to the Table

The Tigers offense has been nothing short of question marks all season, namely at quarterback. They started out with who they thought would be Joe Burrow’s replacement in Myles Brennan, but have since moved onto true Freshman TJ Finley.

This clearly hasn’t been the answer as the Tigers offense hasn’t gone over 24 points in their last five games, especially after last week being shutdown by #1 Alabama. However, the Tigers should have more optimism this week as the Gators defense has certainly looked lackadaisical at times, giving up nearly four touchdowns a game and 400 yards of offense.

They even let lowly Tennessee cover the spread last week while the Gators were on the road with a late touchdown in the fourth quarter as the heavily favored Gators only won by 12. This suggests this Florida team might already be looking past opponents to the SEC championship.

Prediction

However with this being said, I don’t think LSU has enough firepower to muster an upset here in the Swamp. Like I said, it is senior day for a lot of these Gator players and they will want to go out with a win on top.

Furthermore, every win is still crucial for Florida as they certainly need help to get into the College Football Playoff, so despite them already clinching the SEC title game, it won’t mean much to play in that if they can’t take care of business at home one last time.

Even if the defense struggles, the Gators offense will once again pick up the slack and carry them to the finish line.

Florida 42 — LSU 25
