Game Preview
Nevada was the final team to make the tourney, avoiding disappointment by a narrow margin after no late bids were stolen. Not long ago, the Wolfpack were expected to earn a 9-seed, with 4 Quad 1 wins and a top-35 NET ranking supporting them. However, they collapsed down the stretch, losing their final 3 games against bad teams. They’ve been given a chance, but they need to bounce back.

Arizona State got a crucial win against USC in the Pac-12 quarterfinals, which was likely the tipping point that earned them the 2nd-to-last spot in the tourney. They lost to Arizona in the game after that, but have a chance to get back on track against a flailing Nevada team, before setting their sights on TCU if they win. The Sun Devils have worse metrics than Nevada, which they’ll need to overcome.
Picks
In the 2nd First Four game between bubble teams, we get a bout between the last two teams to crack the field. Both should consider themselves lucky that there was a historically low amount of stolen bids, allowing them to avoid falling to the NIT. For this matchup, Nevada spent most of the season as the stronger team, but was concerningly bad down the stretch. I’d favor Arizona State to win it.
