The New York Yankees, needless to say, didn’t get a desirable result in the first six games of the season. The Bronx Bombers are 2-4 and with a pile of players on the injury list.

On Thursday (3:05 PM EST), they will try to end a two-game losing skid as they kick off their second head-to-head series with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.

Yankees lefty James Paxton will have his second start of the year after pitching 5.1 innings in his debut. Alex Cobb, meanwhile, will finally get his first pitching stint for the Orioles after a groin injury delayed his season debut. The New York Yankees are -210 over the Baltimore Orioles.

New York Yankees Team Preview

If there’s one word to describe the Yankees’ season thus far, then the word would be injuries.

After New York opened the season without stars Aaron Hicks, Didi Gregorius, Jacoby Ellsbury, CC Sabathia, and Luis Severino, the injury bug continues as Giancarlo Stanton (biceps), Miguel Andujar (shoulder) and off-season acquisition Troy Tulowitzki (calf) also sustained injuries this week.

According to reports, there’s a strong likelihood Andujar will undergo a season-ending surgery to fix a torn labrum in his hip.

With this turn of events, Yankees manager Aaron Boone is left with no choice but to maximize the remaining talents around him. Catcher Gary Sanchez already homered twice this season, but we have yet to see main sluggers Gleyber Torres and Aaron Judge going over the fence this year.

Baltimore Orioles Team Preview

The Orioles dropped to the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 to conclude their three-game series on Wednesday. The loss ended Baltimore’s four-game winning streak stretching between the last two games of their season-opening series with the Yankees and the first two games of their series with the Jays.

Despite the loss, things are looking up for the Orioles – a team many baseball pundits expect to finish last in the ultra-competitive AL East division.

There isn’t much special about Baltimore. Statistic-wise, they are a mediocre team in terms of batting average (16th in the league at .234), slugging percentage (20th at .373) and runs (12th with 25). Their pitching corps isn’t that amazing either since they are allowing 4.33 ERA per game.

However, what keeps the Orioles afloat during this opening stretch is their knack of finding ways to win close games. Against the Jays, Baltimore exhibited poise in pressure-packed situations as they were able to thwart Toronto’s comeback attempts in back-to-back games.

New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles Betting Pick

Cobb, who is coming off a lackluster 2018 form (5-15 with 4.90 ERA), hopes for a fresh start despite nursing a right groin strain days ahead of Opening Day. In 2018, Cobb went 3-3 with a 2.25 ERA and 12 strikeouts.

James Paxton, on the other hand, will have a chance to redeem himself against the Orioles after he allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The bottomline is it would be a daunting task for the Yankees to win this game with their key sluggers limping in the dugout. Moreover, the Orioles are heading into their first home game at Camden Yards with huge momentum on their side.

Bet the Baltimore Orioles +194 underdogs against the New York Yankees.
