NFL Predictions

The Chiefs blew by the Cardinals with no issues on Sunday, winning 44-21 in a game that was never close. Amid concerns that the offense would regress following the departure of star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes quickly reminded the world of who exactly they are. Tight end Travis Kelce once again lead the way on offense with 8 catches for 121 yards and a TD.

The Chargers won a well-fought 24-19 game against the Raiders. They played with great discipline. Committing no turnovers, allowing no sacks, and losing only 21 yards to penalties, they never gave the Raiders an opportunity to break free. The addition of linebacker Khalil Mack made the defense look much tougher. Expect another classic, competitive matchup between these two teams.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Chiefs 33, Chargers 31 (KC -1.0)

NFL Predictions

The Jets didn’t have much to show off in a rough 24-9 home loss against the Ravens. Without young starting quarterback Zach Wilson, who is still recovering from an MCL injury, they looked lost on offense. Veteran QB Joe Flacco threw for a 74.6 passer rating against his former team. The Jets may as well give Mike White a chance to start in Week 2, as they look for any kind of spark.

The Browns spoiled Baker Mayfield’s revenge tour with a 26-24 win in Carolina. Jacoby Brissett didn’t play all that well, but he did enough to help the Browns return home at 1-0. Running back Nick Chubb carried the ball 22 times for 141 yards, helping to solidify the win. I don’t have much confidence in either of these teams on a weekly basis, but the Browns should get this one done at home.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Browns 27, Jets 17 (CLE -6.5)

Washington Commanders vs Detroit Lions

NFL Predictions

The Commanders defeated the Jaguars by a score of 28-22 on Sunday. In his Washington debut, Carson Wentz threw for 313 yards and 4 TDs, as well as a pair of interceptions. Rookie wide receiver Jahan Dotson, who was selected by the Commanders with the 16th overall pick out of Penn State, had a memorable NFL debut. He finished with 40 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.

In Dan Campbell-esque fashion, the Lions refused to give up on Sunday, battling until the clock hit 0:00. Unfortunately, the game also ended in a 38-35 loss for Detroit, who was never really in contention with the Eagles. 2nd-year WR Amon-Ra St. Brown continued his strong start to his NFL career, finishing with 8 catches for 64 yards and a TD. I think the Lions get it done at home in Week 2.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Lions 30, Commanders 23 (DET -1.0)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs New Orleans Saints

NFL Predictions

The Buccaneers dominated the Cowboys on Sunday night, putting up a fantastic defensive effort in the 19-3 victory. Tampa Bay struggled a bit on offense in the red zone, resorting to five Ryan Succop field goal attempts in the first half. The already struggling Buccaneers offense lost Chris Godwin to a hamstring injury on Sunday. Tom Brady might have to rely on his defense a lot this season.

The Saints trailed the Falcons 26-10 with 12 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, before scoring 17 unanswered points to win the game. The comeback was a great win for New Orleans, but there are definitely concerns about an offense that only scored 10 points in 3 quarters against the Falcons. The Buccaneers defense is going to be an even tougher matchup for the Saints.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Buccaneers 26, Saints 19 (TB -1.5)

Carolina Panthers vs New York Giants

NFL Predictions

The Giants shocked the Titans on Sunday, coming back from a 13-0 halftime deficit to win the game 21-20. New York was led by running back Saquon Barkley, who looked much like his old self as he ran for 164 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. The Giants defense played well despite being without key defensive pieces Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari, who could return for Week 2.

Baker Mayfield couldn’t get the revenge he wanted against the Browns, as he ultimately came up short in a 26-24 loss. Mayfield finished 16 for 27 for 235 yards, a TD, and an INT. The Panthers’ mediocre offensive performance stemmed from Mayfield’s struggles and was exacerbated by an under-use of star running back Christian McCaffrey. Things won’t get much easier against the Giants.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Giants 24, Panthers 20 (NYG -2.0)

New England Patriots vs Pittsburgh Steelers

NFL Predictions

The Patriots didn’t have much to show on offense in a 20-7 loss against the Dolphins. Three costly turnovers, including a red-zone interception on the opening drive, proved to be costly. Otherwise, the Patriots didn’t play significantly well or poorly, putting up a very mediocre performance. New England’s defense will have a lot of responsibility to keep them in the game moving forward.

The Steelers stunned the Bengals on Sunday, defeating the defending AFC champions in Cincinnati. Pittsburgh got off to a great start, turning over Joe Burrow 4 times in the first half. Unfortunately, they let the Bengals back into the game, but wound up the beneficiaries of two missed game-winning kicks by Cincinnati. This week, I see the Steelers beating the Patriots in a slug fest.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Steelers 17, Patriots 13 (PIT +0.5)

Indianapolis Colts vs Jacksonville Jaguars

NFL Predictions

The Colts wound up tying the Texans in Week 1. After trailing for most of the game, Indianapolis forced a Davis Mills turnover in plus territory and quickly tied things up. Neither team could prevail in overtime, giving the Colts a 0-0-1 record to start the season. Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and running back Jonthan Taylor were exceptional, combining for 296 yards and 2 TDs.

The Jaguars played the Commanders tight all game, but could never close the gap and ultimately wound up 0-1 once again. There were some highlights for Jacksonville, though. 2022 1st-overall pick Travon Walker finished with both a sack and an interception. Surprisingly, the Jaguars are undefeated against Colts head coach Frank Reich. I see that continuing this week with another brutal tie.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Jaguars 24, Colts 24 (JAX +2.5)

Miami Dolphins vs Baltimore Ravens

NFL Predictions

The Dolphins controlled the game from start to finish against the Patriots. Their victory was never in doubt. The defense played incredibly well, forcing 3 turnovers and allowing Tua Tagovailoa and the offense to take it easy. Top wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle had a great start to their first season together in Miami, combining for 177 scrimmage yards and a touchdown.

The Ravens dominated the Jets in another game that was never really close. After trading top WR Marquise Brown to the Cardinals this offseason, there were some questions as to who would step up as Lamar Jackson’s new top target. Against the Jets, Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay led the way, combining for 103 yards and 3 TDs. I see the Dolphins squeaking by with the upset here.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Dolphins 24, Ravens 23 (MIA +3.5)

Atlanta Falcons vs Los Angeles Rams

NFL Predictions

The Falcons continued their pattern of blowing close games, losing 27-26 to the Saints in a game they led for over three quarters. The good news is new starting quarterback Marcus Mariota played relatively well, especially considering dynamic tight end Kyle Pitts had little impact on the game. The Falcons need their defense to improve as the season goes if they want to avoid a bottom-5 finish.

The Rams got absolutely pummeled by the Bills on Thursday Night. This game in Week 2 will provide a good indicator to if the Rams really are going to struggle this season, or if the Bills are just that good. The Rams have most of the pieces there from last year, with WR Cooper Kupp and DL Aaron Donald leading the way on offense and defense. I expect a bounce-back win from them this week.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Rams 29, Falcons 20 (ATL +10.0)

Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers

NFL Predictions

The Seahawks spoiled Russell Wilson’s return to Seattle with a 17-16 win against the Broncos on Monday Night. Geno Smith had a fantastic game, finishing 23 for 28 for 195 yards and 2 TDs. If Seattle’s defense is able to play the way they did against Denver for the remainder of the season, the Seahawks may not be the easy out that many people had expected them to be this year.

The 49ers lost 19-10 against the Bears in a very moist game at Soldier Field. Trey Lance will get another chance in Week 2 in better conditions, but his struggles in Week 1 have definitely brought up some concerns. It’s not impossible that Jimmy Garoppolo could wind up seeing the field at some point in this matchup. Regardless, I think the Seahawks go on the road and get the upset.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Seahawks 23, 49ers 20 (SEA +5.5)

Cincinnati Bengals vs Dallas Cowboys

NFL Predictions

The Bengals lost their opener against the Steelers on Sunday. It was a disastrous game on all fronts for Cincinnati, who turned the ball over 5 times and missed two game-clinching kicks. Despite all of those mistakes, the Bengals still nearly won the game, perhaps a testament to a stacked roster that includes star wide receiver JaMarr Chase, who finished with 10 catches for 129 yards and a TD.

The Cowboys not only lost to the Buccaneers on Sunday night, but they also lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott for at least four weeks. Prescott will undergo surgery on his thumb after injuring it during a brutal performance by the entire Dallas offense. Without Prescott, I don’t expect the Cowboys to be nearly as competitive, and 0-2 seems almost inevitable with this Week 2 matchup.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Bengals 31, Cowboys 16 (CIN -7.0)

Houston Texans vs Denver Broncos

NFL Predictions

The Texans played really well for the majority of their opener against the Colts on Sunday, before ultimately blowing a 14-point lead in the 4th quarter. With about 30 seconds remaining in overtime, the Texans were faced with a 4th down decision. Instead of attempting to continue their drive for the win, Houston opted to punt, guaranteeing the result of a tie, which I guess is technically not a loss.

The Broncos had a disappointing start to a highly anticipated season with a 17-16 loss against the Seahawks on Monday night. Despite big games from WR Jerry Jeudy, who finished with 102 yards and a TD, and RB Javonte Williams who had 11 catches and 108 scrimmage yards, the Broncos offense never quite got it going. They should have just enough to get past the Texans in Week 2.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Broncos 23, Texans 20 (HOU +10.0)

Arizona Cardinals vs Las Vegas Raiders

NFL Predictions

The Cardinals got routed by the Chiefs on Sunday. While the offense played somewhat well, the defense really struggled against Patrick Mahomes and company. Arizona will have a bounce-back opportunity against a Raiders team that was held to under 20 points in Week 1. This matchup will be a great test to see how much of the Cardinals’ defensive struggles were Mahomes-induced.

The Raiders played a good game against the Chargers on Sunday, but were unable to return home with the victory. The biggest cause of the Raiders loss was 3 interceptions thrown by starting quarterback Derek Carr. Against a Cardinals defense that surrendered 44 points in Week 1, Carr will have no excuse for bad turnovers. This could win up being a shootout, which favors the home team.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Raiders 30, Cardinals 27 (ARI +5.5)

Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers

Schedule

NFL Predictions

The Bears got off to a great start in quarterback Justin Fields’ second NFL season, defeating the 49ers 19-10. In a wet game with rough conditions at Soldier Field, both offenses struggled, but the Bears ultimately came out on top thanks to a great second-half performance by Fields. If the Bears defense can play that well in all conditions, they’ll be tougher to beat this season than expected.

The Packers got dominated by the Vikings in Week 1, losing by a score of 23-7. Following the departure of star receiver Davante Adams, the Packers had some real issues in the passing game. Aaron Rodgers finished the game with a 67.7 passer rating, creating some cause for concern. Green Bay should win at home here, but I’m not super confident they can cover that spread.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Packers 20, Bears 13 (GB -6.5)

Tennessee Titans vs Buffalo Bills

Schedule

  • When: Monday, Sept 19, 2022, at 7:15 p.m ET
  • Where: Highmark Stadium, Orchard Park, NY

Vegas Odds

NFL Predictions

The Titans fell apart after leading the Giants 13-0 at halftime on Sunday, ultimately losing the game 21-20. A missed 47-yard field goal for the win may have been the final nail in the coffin, but the Titans showed reasons for concern all across the board. The lack of AJ Brown in the passing game was noticeable, Derrick Henry never really got going, and the defense couldn’t get important stops.

Buffalo absolutely dominated the defending Super Bowl champions on Thursday, cruising to a 31-10 victory. They return home in Week 2 for a matchup against the dejected Titans. Josh Allen is the leading MVP candidate, and he’ll add to his campaign this coming week. An 11-day rest for the Bills should be just what they need to put the beat down on Tennessee as well.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Bills 37, Titans 13 (BUF -6.5)

NFL Predictions

The Vikings got a huge win at home in Week 1 against the Packers, making a statement to other teams in the league. Next up, they’ll have a Monday night matchup against the Eagles in Philly. Minnesota’s star WR Justin Jefferson finished with 9 catches for 184 yards and 2 TD’s on Sunday, and he should be able to easily exploit an Eagles defense that gave up 35 points to the Lions.

The Eagles managed to outlast a determined Lions team on Sunday. Their offense looked stellar, led by the newly acquired A.J. Brown, who finished with 10 catches for 155 yards. If the Eagles defense can get closer to the level that many expected, they would be the easy front-runners in the NFC East. The Vikings will be a great test for the Eagles defense, one they may not be ready to pass.

NFL Las Vegas Picks:

Vikings 38, Eagles 30 (MIN +2.0)
