NFL Predictions
The Steelers fell short on Sunday against the Patriots, losing 17-14 in a gritty and defensive battle. Pittsburgh now sits at 1-1 with an opportunity to get back above .500 against the Browns in Week 3. The Steelers defense played well again on Sunday, even without star lineman T.J. Watt, who injured his pec in Week 1. On the other hand, the offense has yet to show much consistency.
Cleveland lost 31-30 against the Jets on Sunday after an epic collapse. They led by a score of 30-17 with under 2 minutes remaining in the game, before giving up a 66-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to Corey Davis on the Jets’ next drive. Then the Jets converted the onside kick, and scored again for the win, leaving the Browns stunned. Expect another close home loss on Thursday.

NFL Predictions
The Texans lost 16-9 against the Broncos last week. For the second straight game, the defense was a positive surprise for Houston, while the offensive underperformed. Second-year quarterback Davis Mills finished 19 for 38 for 177 yards and 0 TDs. The Texans never turned the ball over, but still only managed to score 9 points. They’ll have an equally tough matchup against the Bears.
Chicago lost on Sunday night against the Packers by a score of 27-10. After an impressive win in Week 1, the Bears didn’t have the same stuff to show against Green Bay. The defense allowed Aaron Rodgers to dice them up, and the offense looked stagnant. Justin Fields finished 7 for 11 for 70 yards and an INT. He’ll need to be considerably better in the future to avoid a losing streak.

The Raiders collapsed on Sunday against the Cardinals, losing 29-23 in overtime. Las Vegas led 20-0 at halftime and 23-7 entering the final 4 minutes of the game. After allowing two quick touchdowns that would tie things up 23-23, the game went into overtime. Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow fumbled the ball, which the Cardinals picked up and returned for a game-winning touchdown.
Tennessee got embarrassed by the Bills on Monday night, losing by a score of 41-7. They were a disaster on all fronts. Ryan Tannehill finished 11 for 20 for 117 yards and 2 INTs, and Derrick Henry averaged just 1.9 yards per carry. The defense was gashed for multiple chunk plays and allowed Buffalo to run away with the game. After a 12-5 season last year, the Titans may start out 0-3 this season.

The Chiefs defeated the Chargers 27-24 on Thursday, improving to 2-0 on the season. The win wasn’t quite as bombastic as their rout of the Cardinals in week 1, but it was a win against a good team nonetheless. Patrick Mahomes threw for just 235 yards and 2 touchdowns, a testament to the Chargers’ defense. Mahomes will have another opportunity for a big game against the Colts.
Indianapolis got embarrassed by the Jaguars on Sunday, losing 24-0. The Colts still haven’t beat Jacksonville under head coach Frank Reich, and the loss spawned dozens of concerns. Matt Ryan finished 16 for 30 for 195 yards and 3 INTs, unable to string together any scoring drives. Ryan is looking like a major downgrade from Wentz, and the Colts seem to be downright bad after two games.

The Bills dominated the Titans on Monday night, winning 41-7. After beating the Rams 31-10 in Week 1, Buffalo now holds the NFL’s largest scoring margin by a significant amount. It’s hard to overstate just how good the Bills have been, dominant in both games on both offense and defense. Stefon Diggs has broken records, starting the season out with 20 catches for 270 yards and 4 TDs.
Speaking of incredible performances, the Dolphins came back from a 21-point deficit against the Ravens to win the game 42-38. Tua Tagovailoa had his best game in the NFL, throwing for 469 yards and 6 touchdowns. Second-year wide receiver Jaylen Waddle had 11 catches for 171 yards and 2 TDs, while the newly acquired Tyreek Hill finished with 11 catches for 190 yards and 2 TDs.

The Lions defeated the Commanders on Sunday, 36-27. Detroit’s offense has started out the season red-hot, racking up 71 points in the first 2 games. 2nd-year wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had an incredible game on Sunday. He finished with 184 scrimmage yards and 2 touchdowns. Rookie defensive end Aiden Hutchinson had 3 sacks, but the Lions defense still struggled overall.
Minnesota got embarrassed on Monday night against the Eagles. Kirk Cousins threw 3 red zone interceptions, falling to 2-10 in his career on Monday Night Football, which is good for the worst MNF win percentage in NFL history. Running back Dalvin Cook finished with just 17 yards on 6 carries. The Vikings will look for a major bounce-back win in a Week 3 home game against the Lions.

The Ravens collapsed on Sunday, blowing a 35-14 lead in the 4th quarter. Baltimore’s defense got too comfortable with the lead, allowing Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to burn them for big plays that eventually allowed the Dolphins to get back into the game. The Ravens still played well in both games so far this season. Look for a better defensive performance against the Patriots this week.
Speaking of the Patriots, they managed to upend the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Sunday. After a rough showing in Week 1, New England bounced back with just enough juice to get to a 1-1 record for Week 3. Mac Jones and company will have another difficult test against the Ravens in their home opener this week. The offense needs to improve on 12 points per game to have a chance at winning.

The Bengals dropped to 0-2 on Sunday, falling 20-17 in Dallas against the Cowboys. Despite facing backup quarterback Cooper Rush, Cincinnati was unable to come away with a win. They now head to New Jersey to take on a Jets team that had a gritty comeback win in Week 2. The Bengals need better protection and support for Joe Burrow, or they could go from AFC Champions to 0-3 just like that.
The gritty comeback win salvaged what was starting to look like a grim start to the season for the Jets, who will face their 3rd straight AFC North opponent on Sunday. Joe Flacco played significantly better in Week 2, finishing with 307 yards and 4 touchdowns. This could be Flacco’s final start for the Jets before Zach Wilson is ready to return from injury. I think the Bengals get it done here.

The Eagles dominated the Vikings on Monday night, winning 24-7 and improving to 2-0 on the season. The defense looked much better this week against Minnesota, after surrendering 35 points to the Lions in Week 1. If Philadelphia can continue this level of play, they should be the easy favorites to win the NFC East division. Their first divisional test comes this week against the Commanders.
Washington fell short against the Lions last week, giving up 36 points in the process. After major regression last season, the Commanders defense seems to be equally unstable this year, surrendering 58 points in the first two games against the Jaguars and Lions. On the other hand, Carson Wentz has been great for Washington. Expect the defense to have some trouble with Philadelphia.

The Saints lost 20-10 against the Buccaneers on Sunday, never really showing much of anything on offense. Their defense, on the other hand, played spectacularly for 3 quarters, before allowing a couple of touchdowns in the 4th. New Orleans needs the offense to improve to make a playoff push, but their defense, led by a brawling Marshon Lattimore, appears to be the real deal this season.
Carolina lost to the Giants on Sunday, picking up their second tough loss of the season. They’ll have an opportunity to get things back on track against the Saints, but another loss and an 0-3 start could send them spiraling. The Panthers’ fate lies in the hands of hot-seat recipient Matt Rhule and a continually regressing Baker Mayfield, who probably will come up short once again in Week 3.

The Jaguars defeated the Colts 24-0 on Sunday, earning a huge divisional win. It was the best performance for Jacksonville’s defense since the Sacksonville era 5 years ago. Defensive end Josh Allen and 1st-overall pick Travon Walker, combined with a rapidly improving secondary, may have made the Jaguars defense a major force again. The Chargers provide a great test for them this week.
Los Angeles came up short in Kansas City on Thursday, but played another excellent game. Their defense has been exceptional so far this season, thanks to the offseason addition of Khalil Mack, and their offense continues to improve under 3rd-year quarterback Justin Herbert. The Chargers may play this one closer than expected against a stout Jaguars team, but they should come out on top.

The Rams bounced back from their Week 1 walloping at the hand of the Bills, with a Week 2 win against the Falcons. It wasn’t pretty, they allowed Atlanta to stay in the game, but eventually won 31-27. The biggest concern for Los Angeles right now is their defense, which has allowed 58 points through the first two weeks. They relied on their defense for much of last year’s championship season.
Arizona staged a miraculous comeback against the Raiders on Sunday, winning 29-23 in overtime. The win salvaged what could have been an ugly loss after they entered halftime trailing 20-0. The Cardinals have a major test in Week 3 against the Rams, after some inconsistency in the first two weeks of the season. Expect the Rams defense to give Kyler Murray some trouble in this one.

The Falcons couldn’t manage to take down the Rams in Los Angeles on Sunday, but they played an encouraging game. After losing their first two games against the Saints and Rams by a combined 5 points, Atlanta is in a much better position than many of the other 0-2 teams. A win against the Seahawks, with a home date against the Browns on the horizon, could be just what the Falcons need.
Seattle was thoroughly dominated by the 49ers this week, losing by a score of 27-7. After an encouraging game for Geno Smith and the Seahawks in Week 1 against the Broncos, a wave of harsh realities hit them in Week 2’s loss. The offense was inefficient all game, with the only points coming from special teams on a blocked FG touchdown. I favor the home team in close matchups like this one.

The Packers bounced back from a bad loss in Week 1 with a 27-10 win over the Bears in Week 2. Aaron Rodgers had a much better game, finished 19 for 25 for 234 yards and 2 TDs. Green Bay has a matchup with the 2-0 Buccaneers in Week 2. This game will provide an excellent opportunity to see how the Packers offense will perform against a top-tier defense without Davante Adams.
Speaking of the Buccaneers defense, they currently lead the league with just 13 points allowed through two games. Right now, the offense is definitely a cause for concern, especially the red-zone offense, which has been among the league’s worst. With that being said, the Buccaneers defense has been exceptional, and I see them carrying Tampa Bay to another win in this one.

The 49ers saw both a win and a loss on Sunday. They won their game, defeating the Seahawks 27-7 in a dominant fashion. At the same time, they also lost their starting quarterback Trey Lance, who will miss the entire season with an ankle injury that requires surgery. The loss is devastating for the 49ers, but having the league’s best backup in Jimmy Garoppolo softens the blow a bit.
The Broncos won an ugly game against the Texans on Sunday, improving to 1-1 on the season. Their offense hasn’t looked anything like what it was expected to be under new quarterback Russell Wilson. Denver scored 16 points in both of their games this season. Star wide receiver Jerry Jeudy suffered a rib injury, adding to the Broncos’ offensive woes, which could cost them against the 49ers.

The Cowboys defeated the Bengals 20-17 this week, in a game many had written off as a loss. Dallas lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott last week in an ugly game against the Buccaneers, causing their odds to crater. Despite that, backup Cooper Rush managed to do just enough on Sunday to get the win. With a dynamic defense led by Micah Parsons, Dallas is far from out of things just yet.
After improving to 2-0 for the first time since 2015, the Giants have their eyes set on this Monday night matchup with the Cowboys. With home games against Dallas and Chicago in Weeks 3 and 4, a 4-0 start is not out of the Giants reach, but they’ll need much better play on offense to get there. If the Giants get Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari back this week, their defense will be dangerous.
