Tom McNeil (0-1) New England Patriots Moneyline

Patriots vs Jets Betting Lines

Is the definition of insanity doing the same thing and expecting different results? Yes! Is this a stubborn pick in an attempt to make up for an opening loss? Quite Possibly. Despite that, the Patriots showed more than enough to win against the Dolphins in their opener, with Mac Jones looking particularly impressive when he was allowed to throw the ball.

The curious thing was some ultra-conservative playcalling which actually resulted in two killer turnovers from the running backs, while Bill Belichick’s teams tend to bounce back strongly after a sloppy performance, and he’s also known for his ability to make it hard for opponents with rookie QB’s.

Zach Wilson showed signs of promise on his competitive debut, but the Pats should be winning this one.

Beard Laws (1-0) (@BeardLaws) Denver Broncos -6

Jaguars vs Broncos Betting Lines

The Trevor Lawrence era didn’t exactly get off to a bang with a heavy defeat against a deeply-unfancied Texans team, so it could be another year of rebuilding for Jacksonville rather than putting up a fight for the division title at this point.

It won’t get any easier for the rookie against a formidable Denver defense, but they also have to deal with Teddy Bridgewater who looked impressive on his debut as he continued to find ways to extend plays and he came up with several big moments against the Giants.

Lawrence also threw three INTs against Houston so that will be a concern here, and it won’t be a surprise if Denver score on defense and win this comfortably.

Brian Handzel (1-0) Tampa Bay Buccaneers -13

Falcons vs Buccaneers Betting Lines

The Bucs defense didn’t quite put up the showing in week one that they were expected to, but look for that to change in week two when they host the Atlanta Falcons. Despite a 31-29 win in week one, look for Tom Brady and company to really turn it up this week for not only their Home Opener but also the first time since 2003 that the Lombardi Trophy has been in Tampa Bay.

The Falcons struggled in their Home Opener in week one against the Eagles, where they lost 32-6. Matt Ryan, who still has one more season left on his contract may be nearing the end of his productive years. Ryan passed for 164 yards, completing 21 of 35 passes in the week one loss. Brady on the other hand threw for 379 yards on 32 of 50 passing with four touchdown passes. Look for a route in Tampa Bay this week.

Annie Adkins (1-0) Cleveland Browns -12.5

Texans vs Cleveland Betting Lines

Despite losing 33-29, the Browns did okay in Week 1 against favored Chiefs. In fact, they had a lead until five minutes into the final quarter. Meanwhile, the Texans won their first game of the season. However, the reason why they won is that they played against one of the worst teams in the NFL – the Jaguars who went 1-15 in 2020.

Cleveland were undone by some Patrick Mahomes magic in week 1 but they looked excellent on offense and should run this Texans team over, so the spread of -12.5 should be too low as they blow Houston away here.

Carl Taylor (0-1) Chicago Bears -3

Bears vs Bengals Betting Lines

The NFL week 2 lock is the Chicago Bears -3 over the Cincinnati Bengals. Chicago got embarrassed 34-14 by the Rams on a national stage Sunday night while the Bengals were the darlings of the NFL getting a 27-24 OT win over the Vikings in Joe Burrow’s return from an ACL injury. Chicago has the pass rush in Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn to make Burrow uncomfortable, and although it’s the Andy Dalton revenge game vs. Cincinnati – it’s Justin Fields taking over at QB in the 2nd half that guides the Bears to big win.

Longshot of Week 2: Detroit Lions +400

Lions vs Packers Betting Lines

Generally speaking, forcing an unhappy player to stick around for one more season doesn’t usually work out well. There was a theory that Aaron Rodgers would have one final great year in Green Bay to show everyone what they would be missing, but now the conspiracy theories are out in force after a blow-out loss to the Saints and Jameis Winston in Week 1.

The offense only managed to put up three points and Rodgers didn’t look like his usual self at all, so could Detroit take advantage?

They did put up a strong fight against the 49ers in their opener and even had the ball with a chance to tie the game with the final possession, so if you’re feeling particularly bold this is one to keep an eye on.
