- Dak Prescott is expected to play on Thursday against the Buccaneers.
- Two offensive linemen listed as “Out” for Tampa Bay.
- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers come in as the favorites on Thursday.
The season kicks off on September 9th in a Thursday night game between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Cowboys, start their quest to forget last season and regain control of the NFC East. Luckily, they’ll have starting quarterback Dak Prescott back in the lineup to help. There are still questions surrounding just how healthy he is and what the reinjury risk is. Hopefully, we’ll get a good look at him on Thursday and can determine where he’s at.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a fantastic 2020, winning the NFC Championship and more importantly, the Super Bowl. Tom Brady and the group will look to get back to that glory by starting strong on Thursday. They’ll face a strong offense in the Cowboys which should be a good test for the defense. One of the biggest concerns is the two offensive linemen listed as “out” for Thursday’s game.

Cowboys vs Buccaneers Vegas Odds
Cowboy’s success hinges on Prescott’s health
Last year, we saw just how easy the Cowboys season derails when Prescott is out. They’ll have him back in the lineup to start the season, but we haven’t got a good look at him. This is likely due to some shoulder pain he dealt with through the preseason. Although it’s definitely a cause for worry, the organization believes he’s ready to go. Expect them to lean heavily on Ezekiel Elliot though.
The Dallas Cowboys come in as 7.5-point underdogs here, giving them just over a touchdown margin. These two teams haven’t faced each other since 2018 when the Buccaneers were a much worse team. What we have to ask is how much faith in the Cowboys offense do we have? We know that the Tampa Bay offense can seemingly score at will, so can the Cowboys keep up? Or will they be left behind by the end of the fourth quarter?
Could the Buccaneers Steamroll the Cowboys?
The two guards listed as “out” could weigh into the Buccaneers’ offense, but we don’t think it’ll slow them much. Instead, the Buccaneers will use their running backs to batter and tire out the Dallas defense. After that, it’ll turn over to Tom Brady picking apart the Dallas zone coverages, using Mike Evans. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, Tampa Bay just has too many weapons on offense.
This is where we could see the game get out of hand quickly. Tampa Bay’s offense in the preseason didn’t show much, but we have to remember how prolific they were last season. They averaged the third-most points per game in the NFL last year at 30.8. They were also one of the best passing teams last season, averaging 289.1 passing yards per game.
Prediction & Pick
Although the offense didn’t look like much in the preseason, we should expect a fast start from Tampa Bay. They possess one of the most overwhelming offenses in the league and we don’t expect Dallas to keep up.
