NFL Picks: Colts vs Titans Prediction, Week 3 Vegas Odds

What the Tennessee Titans need to do on Sunday is avoid the letdown after going into Seattle and escaping with a 33-30 win over the Seahawks. It gets a little bit easier to beat the Indianapolis Colts if they have to go down in the depth chart at the QB position as starter Carson Wentz nurses not one, but two sprained ankles. Tennessee is a -5 point favorite in this battle of AFC South foes.

Game Preview

Colts Playing First Road Game

Indianapolis has started off 0-2 despite playing their first two games in the comfort of Lucas Oil Stadium. Indy had a top 10 defense in the league last season, giving up 332.1 total yards/game (8th) including only 90.5 yards/game on the ground (2nd) but that side of the football has been a real concern through the first two weeks of 2021.

The Colts gave up a 4TD pas performance to Russell Wilson in the season opener, and Wilson’s success through the air allowed the Seahawks to also run for 141 yards. The Rams followed a similar game plan in week two, with Matthew Stafford throwing for 278 yards and 2 TD with Sony Michel and Darrell Henderson, Jr. both rushing for better than 4.6 yards/carry.

It doesn’t look like things will get any easier for the Indy defense in week 3, with Derrick Henry getting loose for 182 yards and 3 scores last week in Seattle. The Titans ran the ball 35 times with Henry but still got a 347-yard passing game from Ryan Tannehill on 40 attempts.

Titans Defense Gets a Break

Mike Vrabel is probably breathing a little sigh of relief heading into week 3 after his defense has had to match up with Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson through the first two games of 2021. Both QBs have torched the Titans, with Murray throwing 4 TDs and running one in during the Cardinals dominating 38-13 home win and Wilson throwing for 343 and 2 scores despite the 3-point Seattle loss in OT last week.

The Colts have to decide to go with either Wentz, who isn’t extremely mobile anyways and would be playing on a couple of sprained ankles if he does start. The other option is Jacob Eason, the second-year player who threw the first five passes of his NFL career last week – having one of them intercepted.

The Titans and Colts split the season series last year, with both teams getting a win on the road. The Colts went into Nashville and scored a 34-17 win in week 10, but that was with Phillip Rivers at the helm of the Indy offense. Tennessee returned the favor 45-26 two weeks later at Lucas Oil Stadium, with Henry running 27 times for 178 yards and 3 TD.

NFL Picks This Week:

Who will win this Week 3 NFL game:

It wouldn’t be a shock to see Tennessee come out flat in this one after the big win over Seattle last week. That being said, the Colts don’t have a QB with Wentz battling injuries and Eason being very inexperienced. With Henry in the backfield and the pass-catching duo of A.J. Brown and Julio Jones on the outside this Titans squad just has too many weapons.

Colts 17 – Titans 31
