As expected #2 pick in the draft Zach Wilson looked like a rookie in the New York Jets 25-6 loss to the Patriots. Bill Belichick has a history of making young QB’s “see ghosts” but things don’t get any easier when Wilson has to face another defensive mastermind in Vic Fangio and the Denver Broncos. Denver has looked really good in starting 2-0, and as a result, are whopping -10.5 favorites at home.

Game Preview

No Jets Offense Again This Week

New York has the 2nd fewest points in the league through two games, putting up just 10.0 ppg so far. Denver has allowed 13 to the Giants and Jaguars, so it’s looking like another tough day for the youngster Zach Wilson. The former BYU star had a couple of TD passes in the season opener but was dumbfounded by Belichick last week in throwing 4 INTs. Wilson is completing just 55.7% of his passes so far this season.

One of the few bright spots for the Jets last week is that they did get a little bit of a running game going, with Michael Carter running for 59 yards and Ty Johnson 50 as a nice 1-2 punch. Three different receivers also had 27+ yard catches, so the New York passing offense is taking some chances.

Even the Jets defense wasn’t completely horrible for losing by 19 points. New England had just one TD to go along with 4 FGs and were often playing with a short field due to the turnovers. Carolina had 381 yards in the season opener and still only came away with 19 points so that’s an underrated performance by the NY offense as well.

Broncos Look Like Contenders

-10.5 points is a lot to cover, but Denver is at home and they are playing nearly flawless football through two weeks. Teddy Bridgewater was the right choice at QB, as he’s played mistake-free with 4 TD and 0 INT and has completed 77.1% of his passes in his first two games in a new offensive system. One would think that’s only going to improve as he gets more comfortable with the players and the scheme.

Bridgewater has had this success even with #1 target Jerry Jeudy on the I-R until late October with a leg injury. Aside from their new QB being a good pickup, it looks like the selection of Javonte Williams in the 2nd round too as he’s provided a nice RB combo with Melvin Gordon III which has allowed Denver to rank 5th in the NFL with 130.5 yards/game. The Jets have a top 10 total defense, but the Broncos are multi-dimensional. Fangio gets to draw up a game plan to face another rookie QB after confusing #1 pick Trevor Lawrence to a 14/33 passing day last week with 2 INTs. Von Miller is back with 3 sacks so far and the Broncos have a much-improved secondary with Patrick Surtain II getting his first career INT last week off Lawrence.

Who will win this Week 3 NFL game:

The big question here is how well Wilson is able to put last week’s horrible outing behind him and try to limit turnovers on Sunday afternoon? The Jets have the defense to keep this one closer than -10.5 points, but only if they’re not playing against the Broncos’ offense as well as their own.
