Jets Thriving under Mike White
The Jets pummeled the Bears on Sunday, winning 31-10, and improving to 7-4 on the season. After finally having had enough with the poor play and lack of accountability from QB Zach Wilson, New York decided to bench their 2nd-overall pick, in favor of Mike White. It immediately proved to be the right decision, with White providing a spark to the Jets offense. He finished the game 22 for 28 for 315 yards and 3 TDs, posting a 149.3 passer rating in the process. It’s hard to imagine New York going back to Zach Wilson anytime soon.
White wasn’t the only player to provide a spark to New York’s offense in the win. Undrafted rookie RB Zonovan Knight carried the ball 14 times for 69 yards, and caught 3 passes for 34 yards, totaling 103 yards. White and Knight will lead the Jets again this week.
On defense, the Jets were once again spectacular. The additions they made in the past NFL draft, namely CB Sauce Gardner, and DE Jermaine Johnson, helped to elevate an already strong defensive front and secondary. The defense could lead them to the playoffs.
Vikings Closing in on Division Clinch
The Vikings bounced back last week, taking town the Patriots in a high-scoring bout. The 33-26 win improved them to 9-2 on the season. They currently hold a 5-game lead over the Lions for 1st place in the NFC North division. A win in this game against the Jets, coupled with a Detroit loss against the Jaguars, would clinch the division for Minnesota. As they get set to host an eventual playoff game, the Vikings can use these tougher regular season matchups to iron out all of their remaining concerns and defensive issues.
Kirk Cousins was finally able to break his primetime curse on Thursday, going 30 for 37 for 299 yards, 3 TDs, and an INT in the win over New England. His top target continues to be WR Justin Jefferson, who reeled in 9 catches for 139 yards and a TD. While the offense thrived, Minnesota’s defense had another concerning performance, allowing the Patriots to drive down the field and score often. The defense has been their biggest point of regression this year, and something the Vikings desperately need improvement on.
Jets vs Vikings Prediction & Pick
This is a matchup that is far more intriguing than many would have thought when the schedule was first made. The Jets started the season out hot, before falling flat when they lost rookie RB Breece Hall to injury. Starting Mike White over Zach Wilson got them back on track, but he faced a horrific Bears defense. This week provides a key test to each team. White will get a test against a much better defensive squad. Meanwhile, the Vikings will have to try and topple an elite defense themselves. I’d favor Minnesota in a close one.
