There’s a very good West division matchup on tap when the Vegas Golden Knights visit the Minnesota Wild in a rematch of Monday’s thriller. Minnesota was able to pull off a 6-5 win last time out, their 4th straight win over the Golden Knights in St. Paul and 5th overall this season. Knights vs Wild Preview
Golden Knights Gearing Up for Postseason
It’s a crucial divisional matchup on Wednesday, but Vegas could have bigger things on their mind as they wrap up a 5-game road swing and head home for three of their last four during the regular season. The Wild and Golden Knights have both clinched postseason berths, but just 4 points separates the top 3 teams in the West.
Vegas has now lost two of their last three and needed OT to beat Arizona for their only victory over that span. This is also a Golden Knights team that had won 10 straight prior, so it’s a bit early for concern. Vegas has also netted 5+ scores in four of their last six games, led by Jonathan Marchessault who has five goals in his last five games.
Marc-Andre Fleury should be up in the Vegas alternating goaltender rotation. He’s riding a personal 6-game win streak, holding opponents to 2 goals or less in each of those contests. It looks like the Golden Knights have a great chance to break their five game losing streak in this series.
Wild Can Close the Gap
Minnesota is 4 points back from the Golden Knights in the West with Colorado to jump over as well. The Wild have two games with last place Anaheim as part of their last four games of the regular season (after the Vegas game) so they’ll be in a great spot if they can pull out the win over the Golden Knights for the 6th straight time.
The Wild have scored points in 10 of their last 11 games, so this is a team on a nice run right now. Monday’s 6-5 win was the 8th time in the last 9 contests that Minnesota has scored at least 4 goals. Kevin Fiala is on fire with a goal in four of the past five, and Kirill Kaprizov has a goal in 7 of 9.
It will likely be Cam Talbot between the pipes for Minnesota, but then again maybe he gets some rest after allowing 4+ goals in his last three starts. Talbot allowed 5 goals to Vegas on 32 SOG on Monday, but was bailed out by his offense in the 6-5 win. Kaapo Kahkonen could get the nod as he’s on a personal three game win streak.
Knights vs Wild Prediction
Who wins the Knights vs Wild game tonight:
There’s value on Vegas at -125 as Fleury is on a bit of a role in net. Minnesota just finds a way at home though (19-5-1) and the Golden Knights may be looking ahead to getting back home for three of their last four games before the playoffs.
