Blues vs Wild Preview
St. Louis Blues Set Their Eyes on the Playoffs
The Blues are the team that won the 2019 Stanley Cup. Most of the players that made the core of the trophy-winning team are still on the roster. Obviously, they still have the players that deserve to play in the postseason.
So, why haven’t they secured a playoff spot? As it’s often the case with St. Louis, they started the season slowly. However, in recent weeks, they’ve been playing top hockey, winning six of their previous nine games.
As a result, the Blues are now in the #4 place in the West Division. Their job isn’t yet over, though. There are still a couple of teams breathing by their next, most notably the Arizona Coyotes, who are just three points behind.
On the bright side for the Blues, the Coyotes have played three games more. What this means is that if the Blues continue playing well, they could book a ticket to the playoffs within the next couple of days.
Minnesota’s Been St. Louis’ Favorite Opponent
Even though they lost their first game against the Wild, the Blues won the next three, and one of those was their biggest win in years.
On April 9, the blues beat the Wild 9-1. Their captain Ryan O’Reilly was the best player in that game, with three goals and one assist. However, there were 14 skaters who got at least one point in that matchup.
That’s the proof that the Blues are not a one-man army but a side that relies on team spirit. They’re going to be without a couple of important players in this game, but that shouldn’t cause them many worries as they got a lot of quality on their roster.
The Wild Have Achieved Their Regular-Season Goals
Minnesota has qualified for the postseason. The Wild are currently in the #3 position, and no matter what happens in the remainder of the season, they will not drop out of the top four.
In fact, they even have a chance to get up in the rankings. The Avs have only one point more than then, although the Wild have played one extra game. They also have a chance to challenge the West Division title, although the Golden Knights have seven points more at this moment.
Knowing all this, it’s very likely that the Wild aren’t going to sweat much about their placement in the table. They’ve achieved their goal in the regular season, so it might be time to start focusing on the postseason.
