Game Preview

Penn State continued their hot streak from the end of the regular season into the tourney, dominating a higher seed in Texas A&M from start to finish. Many had expected the Aggies to be as high as a 5-seed, but the Nittany Lions had no trouble taking them down with confidence. Penn State gets another really tough matchup against Texas, but could make a deep run if they survive once more.

Texas coasted past Colgate in their first round game, continuing their momentum from the Big-12 title game. They’ll face a uniquely difficult task against a Penn State team that has won 9 of their last 11 games. The Longhorns are one of the nation’s most balanced teams, so if they can suffocate the Nittany Lions with their defense, their offense should be able to carry them to another victory here.

Picks

This is one of the games I had circled on my bracket before the first round as a potential Final Four team determiner. I had a ton of trouble deciding between the consistently competitive Longhorns and the scorching-hot Nittany Lions. Ultimately, I made a bracket with each of them, but picked Texas to win in the main one. I think this game will come down to the wire, but I’ll take Texas to win it.
