Event Details & Records

The more prestigious of the PGA Tour events this weekend take place in Scotland, as the Scottish Open will be used to get the world’s best players into peak condition ahead of The Open next weekend. This event has been staged since 1972 and is the final opportunity for players to qualify for the final major of the season. The three leading players on the leaderboard that haven’t yet qualified for the major will be granted entry to The Open.

Meanwhile, Players will be competing for their share of the $8 million purse this weekend over a total length of 7,136 yards. The record score for the event was set in 2018 by Brandon Stone, as he finished -22 with an aggregate score of 260. Min Woo Lee won the event in 2021 after a gripping playoff against Thomas Detry and Matt Fitzpatrick. However, this is the first year that it has been included on the PGA Tour calendar.

Leading Contenders

Jon Rahm heads the betting for the Scottish Open this weekend, as the Spanish star looks to win an eighth PGA Tour event. His only previous win this season came at the Mexico Open, while he has since finished second and third in the Sentry Tournament of Champions and Farmers Insurance Open, respectively.

Last year’s winner Min Woo Lee is a massive price at present, as he is priced up at +11000. The 23-year-old impressed at the previous majors this season, as he finished in a tie for 27th at the US Open and a tie for 14th at The Masters. He could go very well on a course that he knows this weekend.

Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas are also short-priced in the betting. Scheffler is enjoying an excellent season and has already won a career-best four events this year. He has also finished in the top ten on nine occasions throughout the season.

Scottish Open Pick and Prediction

We will be having two plays on the Scottish Open this weekend. Matthew Fitzpatrick has been in fine form throughout the season, and the major winner has previous experience at the course, as he finished second at the Scottish Open in 2021. Meanwhile, we also like the chances of 2020 runner-up Tommy Fleetwood, who has an excellent record on links courses.
