Game Preview

Things are beginning to look up for Graham Potter, as Chelsea comes into this home game against Villa after going three without defeat. The Blues have won two of their last three matches in the league, which is as many games as they had won in their last 15 combined. Furthermore, Chelsea has scored more goals in their previous three than they had in the 12 before this run of fixtures.

Joao Felix certainly appears to be the key player in this Blues side, as he is at the heart of everything good that Potter’s side does. The Portuguese forward has netted two goals in his seven appearances since joining the Blues, and he will be looking to score in his second consecutive appearance at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Unai Emery’s arrival at Aston Villa has certainly led to a reversal in their fortunes. The club will now be targeting a top-half finish in the standings, despite Villa sitting in the relegation places when the Spaniard arrived. Villa has gone four without defeat in the league, which includes three wins over that period.

Defensively the club has improved immeasurably over recent weeks, as they have kept clean sheets in three of their previous four. However, Villa has a poor record at Stamford Bridge, as they have claimed just a single victory on their previous 17 visits. Meanwhile, they have lost six of their last seven since a 3-1 win in December 2011.

Prediction

Villa is certainly a team on the rise, and they could play a prominent role in the race for Europe next term. However, their record at Stamford Bridge is hard to ignore. We see Chelsea claiming victory on Saturday, with Joao Felix finding the net.
